WFTDA championships to stream in four languages for first time

WFTDA will stream the 2026 WFTDA Championships in English, French, Swedish and Spanish for the first time, giving non-English-speaking fans, officials and skaters a direct way into roller derby’s biggest event as Malmö, Sweden prepares to host. The league said it is partnering with Real Time Events on the expanded broadcast.

The multilingual coverage is more than a novelty. WFTDA’s championship presentation has long centered English-language commentary, and adding three more audio options widens the event for international derby communities that have been building across Europe, North America, Oceania and Latin America. WFTDA has also described its 2026 championships announcing and social media crew as the “most international” ever assembled, a sign that the broadcast package is being built to match the tournament’s geography.

The championships sit inside WFTDA’s broader 2026 postseason structure, which also includes regional events in Europe, North America, Oceania and Latin America. In its bid-allocation announcement, WFTDA listed the 2026 championship allocations as Europe 4, North America West 4, North America Northeast 3, Oceania 2 and North America South 2, underscoring how much of the field will be drawn from outside a single market.

WFTDA’s broadcast schedule says the 2026 postseason tournaments will stream live on Sporfie, with replays available shortly after games end. WFTDA.tv says postseason watch passes are available now and include replays of all tournaments, while free archives will open after the postseason concludes. Tournament Central will carry brackets, game schedules, score updates and application information for officials, photographers and announcers.

The same broadcast push is already visible in the Latin America bracket. WFTDA announced that the 2026 WFTDA Latin America Regional Championships were scheduled for April 3-5 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, hosted by Avas Roller Derby, and would stream live for free on its Sporfie channel. That free regional coverage gives the multilingual championships announcement a clear context: WFTDA is not only selling access, it is widening the ways fans can actually follow the postseason.

For a sport that depends on local scenes, volunteer crews and cross-border travel, language-specific commentary can turn a remote stream into something usable for watch parties, bilingual teams and newer followers trying to track penalties, jam timing and roster changes in real time. In Malmö, that shift will make the championships feel less like a domestic broadcast with international visitors and more like a global derby event built for its audience.
