WFTDA sets Oceania championships and updates California bracket for 2026

WFTDA has released the 2026 Oceania Regional Championships bracket and updated the North America-California bracket, giving the postseason map a sharper shape for teams that now know where the pressure points begin. The Oceania bracket comes after the region’s May 1 rankings cutoff, and WFTDA has tied the event to South Sea Roller Derby in Victoria, Australia, with one post placing it in Norlane, Victoria.

The timing fits the league’s January 2026 Playoffs and Championships Policies and Procedures, which place playoffs in the second quarter of even years, from April through June, depending on region needs and venue availability. That policy also guarantees every team at least two games in its playoff and defines a Regional Championship as a type of Playoff, which makes the bracket release more than a scheduling note. It sets the competitive floor and the elimination path at the same time.

WFTDA’s 2026 Tournament Central now has separate pages for California, South Carolina, Michigan, Ontario, Europe, Latin America and Oceania, showing how the postseason is being rolled out region by region. The Oceania geography gives the bracket added weight for teams and fans across Australia. WFTDA stats pages place Canberra Roller Derby League in Dickson, ACT, Australia, Sydney Roller Derby League in Sydney, NSW, Australia, and Victorian Roller Derby League: All Stars and Victorian Roller Derby League: Thunder in Melbourne, VIC, Australia. That cluster of cities, plus the Norlane reference attached to the host event, underscores how much of the regional chessboard is packed into a relatively compact travel corridor.

The California update matters for the same reason the Oceania release does: in WFTDA postseason play, the first matchup can shape the entire road to advancement. Coaches now have a more exact target for scouting and travel planning, while fans following the bracket can track how the California route differs from the other North America regions in the 2026 rollout.
