The Indianapolis Indians have unveiled a Native American Heritage Collection featuring alternate logos, jerseys and caps that honor the legacy of Eastern Woodlands tribes long established in Central Indiana, with on-field use scheduled for six games beginning in May.

The collection's centerpiece is a new Native American Heritage logo drawing directly from Eastern Woodlands ribbon work, which the team describes as "an art form known for its layered patterns as a symbol of cultural continuity, identity and pride among tribes." The logo is designed around three intersecting values: the heritage of Eastern Woodlands tribes, the organization's deep history in professional baseball, and its dedication to the Circle City. Intricate ribbon work designs extend to the jersey sleeves as well, amplifying the cultural reference beyond a single cap mark.

The jerseys and caps make their on-field debut during the organization's annual Native American Heritage Night on Friday, May 8. Specialty merchandise from the collection is already available at IndyIndians.com/Shop.

The Heritage Collection sits inside a broader 2026 rebrand that replaces an identity the Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate had used since 1993, one that, per StadiumJourney, was patterned after Southwestern Native American imagery. The updated visual system was designed entirely in-house by Adam Pintar, the team's senior director of brand, marketing and communications. Its primary mark centers on a stylized blackletter "I" with the team's founding year, 1902, prominently featured. As MiLB noted, that primary logo is "enclosed in a tribute to Native American ribbon work." The full logo suite includes two cap marks, one using the blackletter "I" and another featuring an interlocking "INDY" designed to evoke an early-1900s aesthetic, along with two wordmarks spelling out "Indians" and the road abbreviation "INDPLS." On road grays, the team is going with five letters instead of twelve.

The uniform breakdown: white at home, red alternates carrying the Indians wordmark, and road grays with the "INDPLS" block lettering styled after 1950s and 1960s looks. The Indians will also release two additional uniform collections, Circle City and Negro Leagues, rounding out three distinct alternate identities for 2026. Color descriptions differ slightly across reports, with SportsLogos.Net identifying dark navy as the foundational color with red and yellow highlights, while StadiumJourney lists the palette as wrought iron blue, gold, sky blue and cloud. Both sources agree that caps are solid blue for home and away.

The rebrand grew out of a process that started in February 2023, when the franchise completed a year-long study on whether to retain the Indians name, according to the Indianapolis Star as cited by SportsLogos.Net. The team kept the name and formalized a partnership with the Miami Nation of Indians of Indiana (MNI). MiLB's statement on the matter: "As announced in 2023, the team name will remain the 'Indianapolis Indians,' as the organization continues to partner with and learn from the Miami Nation of Indians of Indiana (MNI) and other experts to be the best stewards of the name."

That partnership has produced tangible commitments: a Miami scholarship program, fan educational opportunities on Native American history, and a land acknowledgement read before every home game. The main logo's diamond motif border draws directly from traditional Miami ribbon work patterns, a visual representation of that ongoing relationship.

StadiumJourney's assessment of the full rebrand was pointed: "The rebrand is a bold move for the Indians, who have stayed consistent with the same branding since 1993. Frankly, it was time for a change." The six-game schedule for the Native American Heritage Collection begins May 8, with the full list of dates still to be confirmed by the team.
