Louisville Bats Drop April 9 Matinee as Edwin Arroyo Homers, Indians’ Pitching Shuts Down Offense
Edwin Arroyo hit his second Triple-A leadoff homer and Michael Chavis went deep for three runs as Louisville downed Indianapolis 5-1 Thursday at Victory Field.

Edwin Arroyo, a cornerstone of the Cincinnati Reds' prospect pipeline, cracked his second Triple-A home run Thursday night at Victory Field as the Louisville Bats defeated the Indianapolis Indians 5-1, snapping back from a shutout loss less than 24 hours earlier.
The Bats got going in the second inning when Michael Chavis drove a three-run homer off Indians starter Nick Dombkowski, staking Louisville to a 3-0 lead and continuing Chavis' strong early stretch of extra-base production through April. Arroyo's leadoff blast arrived later in the game, sending one over the fence to push the margin to 4-0 and putting the contest beyond reach for Indianapolis. It was the shortstop's second homer at the Triple-A level, a clear signal that his power is developing alongside the defensive and on-base tools that have defined his prospect profile.
Davis Daniel handled the mound assignment with efficiency, working through his first four innings without allowing the Indians to cut into the lead. Daniel improved to 1-1 on the season, and his ability to strand Indianapolis runners gave Louisville's bullpen a manageable workload to finish off the 5-1 decision.
The win came one morning after Julian Aguiar absorbed a 5-0 shutout loss to the same opponent at the same venue, with Noah Davis going six scoreless innings against Louisville's lineup on Wednesday. Thursday's response was direct: Chavis made Dombkowski pay early, Arroyo added a solo exclamation point, and Daniel's arm held the margin intact.
With the victory, Louisville moved to 2-1 in the road series against Indianapolis heading into Prospects Weekend at Victory Field, where the Indians are set to wear Pirates-themed jerseys across a three-game stretch starting Friday. The Bats will look to Darren McCaughan against Indianapolis right-hander Antwone Kelly as the weekend slate begins.
