The Phillies optioned right-handed reliever Chase Shugart to Lehigh Valley and reassigned infielders Christian Cairo and Liover Peguero, outfielder Bryan De La Cruz, and right-handed relievers Jonathan Hernández and Lou Trivino to minor-league camp just days before the Philadelphia Phillies and Lehigh Valley IronPigs released their official 2026 Break Camp Roster. The 26-player group, built from those reassignments and a set of additional organizational arms, sets the IronPigs' competitive baseline for the International League season ahead.

The break camp roster carries 15 pitchers, three catchers, four infielders, and four outfielders, with the composition subject to change before Opening Day.

The pitching staff headlined by some familiar MLB names. The Phillies are getting Griff McGarry back from the Washington Nationals after he didn't make their Opening Day roster. McGarry joins a rotation group that also includes Génesis Cabrera, Tucker Davidson, Jean Cabrera, Alan Rangel, and Bryse Wilson. The bullpen adds Ryan Cusick, Nolan Hoffman, Seth Johnson, Trevor Richards, Andrew Walling, and Connor Gillispie alongside the reassigned Shugart, Hernández, and Trivino. Trivino possessed an opt-out clause in his contract that would allow him to receive his release if not on the Opening Day roster, having met the criteria as a free agent with at least six years of MLB service time who finished last season on a 40-man roster and then signed a minor-league deal. He elected to stay in the organization.

The infield features one of the more intriguing storylines on the roster. The Phillies acquired infielder Carter Kieboom for cash from the Cleveland Guardians. Once a top 100 prospect who reached as high as 21 on MLB Pipeline's list back in 2021, Kieboom looked like Anthony Rendon's heir apparent at third base for the Washington Nationals for a few years. A former top prospect in the Washington Nationals system, Kieboom has produced consistently at the Triple-A level, posting a .288/.380/.439 slash line across nearly 1,600 plate appearances. He joins Cairo, Robert Moore, and Liover Peguero in an infield group that gives the IronPigs versatility across multiple positions. Peguero played in 30 games at shortstop last season for Indianapolis, 23 at third base, 9 at second base, 5 at first base, and 8 in center field.

The outfield is anchored by Bryan De La Cruz, Pedro León, Cade Fergus, and Felix Reyes. The Phillies claimed outfielder Pedro León off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles on November 21, 2025. De La Cruz played some center field early in his career but is a corner outfielder at this point, and he still could find ways to help the major-league club in 2026 as the first corner outfielder up if there's an injury.

Behind the plate, Paul McIntosh, René Pinto, and Caleb Ricketts form a three-catcher group. The IronPigs are scheduled to open their home slate with games against Toledo on March 27, 28, and 29 in Allentown. The roster remains subject to change before Opening Day as the Phillies continue finalizing their major-league alignment.
