Saints Complete Historic Sweep of Indianapolis Indians, Begin Season 3-0

Walker Jenkins, the 21-year-old center fielder ranked No. 14 overall by MLB Pipeline and the top prospect in the Twins organization, went 2-for-3 with an RBI Sunday afternoon as the St. Paul Saints closed out a landmark road trip. The Minnesota Twins' Triple-A affiliate completed a three-game sweep of the Indianapolis Indians with a 4-1 win at Victory Field on March 29, their first series sweep against the Indians in franchise history and the first time the Saints have ever opened a Triple-A season with three straight wins.

After having a runner cut down at the plate in the first inning, the Saints got on the board in the second. They loaded the bases on a hit by pitch to Noah Cardenas, a walk to Tanner Schobel, and a one-out walk to Jenkins. Gabby Gonzalez' fielder's choice brought home Cardenas, putting the Saints up 1-0.

The Saints knocked out Indians starting pitcher Antwone Kelly in the third with a couple of two-out runs. With one out, Ryan Kreidler just missed a home run, doubling off the top of the left-center field wall. With two outs, Schobel drew a walk, and back-to-back RBI singles by Aaron Sabato and Jenkins pushed the lead to 3-0. Jenkins finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. His two-walk afternoon added a patience dimension to the production: the one-out walk that loaded the bases in the second was as consequential as the RBI single that followed an inning later.

Strong pitching from Andrew Moore and Jake Klein held Indianapolis to a single run, making the Saints' modest four-run output more than sufficient. Kelly's early exit handed the game to the Indians' bullpen, and neither side found much traction offensively after the third-inning exchanges settled the outcome.

Jenkins is the face of a Twins affiliate built with prospect depth in mind.
