Hao-Yu Lee cleared his final obstacle just in time for Toledo's home debut. The Tigers activated their No. 6 prospect from the Mud Hens' injured list Wednesday, ending a month-long recovery and placing the 23-year-old infielder back on the Fifth Third Field roster for opening day.

The setback originated in early March, when Lee was removed from Team Chinese Taipei's roster in the 2026 World Baseball Classic due to a left oblique strain. The injury happened on the same day as the first game of pool play, cutting short his tournament before he could record an at-bat in Tokyo. He was sent back to Lakeland for evaluation and eventually assigned to Single-A rehab games with the Lakeland Flying Tigers, where he posted a .300 average with 3 RBI before Toledo cleared him for activation.

Lee spent all of 2025 at Triple-A Toledo, where he hit .243 with a .748 OPS, posting 14 home runs and 61 RBIs. He also tallied 22 stolen bases. That production, delivered across a full International League season, cemented his standing as one of the organization's most complete offensive weapons from the infield. A right-handed hitter who can cover both second and third base, Lee gives Toledo genuine lineup flexibility heading into the home stretch of spring-to-summer development.

Acquired in an August 2023 trade that sent starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen to the Philadelphia Phillies, Lee had climbed to No. 3 among MLB Pipeline's top third-base prospects nationally entering 2026. Lee was far enough ahead of the curve as a prospect that even after a full season of Triple-A ball, he only just turned 23 years old last month.

The Mud Hens' 2026 roster includes ten members of the Tigers' 40-man roster, and Lee began the year on the injured list alongside outfielder Danandres Colon. With Lee back in the fold, Toledo's infield now has its projected core intact for the home opener. A .300 rehab line from Single-A does not guarantee anything about what comes next in Triple-A, but it did answer the one question that mattered most heading into Wednesday: Lee is healthy enough to play.
