White Sox discussing promotion of Triple-A prospect Sam Antonacci this week
Sam Antonacci’s .484 on-base percentage at Charlotte is forcing the White Sox to consider him now, not later, for a roster that needs left-handed energy.

White Sox officials have discussed bringing up Sam Antonacci this week, and the timing makes sense: the 23-year-old has turned 45 Triple-A at-bats into a .289 average, a .484 on-base percentage and a .928 OPS for Charlotte.
Antonacci is not just producing, he is changing the shape of the roster conversation. The White Sox No. 9 prospect, a 5-foot-11, 193-pound left-handed hitter who throws right-handed, has already launched two homers, driven in seven runs and stolen five bases for the Knights. His first Triple-A homer came on March 28, a quick signal that his bat was not overwhelmed by the jump. For a Chicago club dealing with offensive pressure, that combination of contact, patience and speed has put Antonacci on the fast track.
If the White Sox make the move, Antonacci would fit as a multi-position answer rather than a one-skill call-up. He is listed by MLB and MiLB as a 2B, 3B, INF and OF option, which gives Chicago some flexibility as it tries to patch obvious holes without locking itself into a rigid lineup decision. The immediate role would likely be short-term, a left-handed spark who can work counts, run the bases and give the club another way to rework its bench. It could also become a longer look if the production follows him to Chicago.
That matters because the White Sox have already been managing Antonacci with development in mind, even while the big-league club has felt the squeeze of a down season. Another recent report said the organization had been prioritizing his growth despite an early need in the outfield, and that tension now sits at the center of the decision. A promotion would almost certainly cut into at-bats for the current patchwork mix of reserve outfield and utility options, even if Chicago keeps the move flexible by using Antonacci around the infield as well.

Antonacci’s rise has been unusually fast for a player taken in the fifth round of the 2024 draft, 140th overall, out of Coastal Carolina. His track record explains why the White Sox are interested. MLB Pipeline points to his dominant run at Heartland Community College, where he helped the school win the 2023 Division II junior-college national title and earned National Player of the Year honors while hitting .515 with a .618 on-base percentage. That’s not just a good college story. It is the profile of a hitter who has kept producing at every stop.
Antonacci also drew notice after returning from Team Italy’s World Baseball Classic run, where MLB.com highlighted him as a White Sox prospect and a WBC standout. The call-up conversation now reflects where Chicago is headed: toward younger, more versatile players who can be moved quickly when the offense needs a jolt. If Antonacci gets the nod, it would be less a ceremonial promotion than a direct answer to the roster pressure in front of the White Sox.
