Adair County Community Baby Shower Offers Families Free Resources April 16
Eligible Adair County families can register for a free April 16 baby shower at Adair County Elementary School, with resources, door prizes and a meal starting at 4 p.m.

Four Adair County agencies are joining forces to host a free community baby shower on April 16 at Adair County Elementary School, 870 Indian Dr. in Columbia, where expecting parents and families with newborns will find child-development resources, door prizes, and a sit-down meal gathered under one roof.
The event begins at 4 p.m. CT, with families directed to enter through Door 8. Sponsors include Adair County FRYSC, KY-ASAP, and the Green River Early Childhood Council, along with numerous additional community partners. To register, attendees must live in Adair County and either be currently expecting or have an infant younger than six months.
The resource-fair format is deliberate. Rather than sending new and expecting parents to separate offices or clinics on different days, the baby shower consolidates multiple services into a single, low-barrier afternoon. Child development and safety resources anchor the programming, while door prizes, including toys, diapers, and gift cards, give the event the feel of a celebration rather than a clinic visit. The shared meal does the same work: sitting down together strips away the transactional weight that can keep families from engaging with social services in the first place.
That calculation matters in a rural county where transportation gaps and limited service hours are real obstacles. Co-locating Adair County FRYSC's family support programming with KY-ASAP's prevention work and the Green River Early Childhood Council's regional early-childhood network means families can make connections on a single Thursday afternoon that might otherwise take months to develop. Cross-referral between partners is a core feature of the model: a parent who walks in for diapers may leave with a developmental screening appointment and a contact at a local agency they didn't know to call.
