Comanche County is still filling out the pieces of its community baby shower, and the biggest need now is not just attendance but partners. Organizers are seeking vendors and sponsors for the event, which is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 15, at FISTA Innovation Park, 200 SW C Ave., on the west side of Central Plaza in Lawton.

The shower is open to all Comanche County residents who would benefit, and the setup makes clear that it is meant to function as more than a simple giveaway line. Vendor slots are aimed at nonprofit or service providers that support families, maternal health and early childhood development, the kind of organizations that can connect pregnant moms, new parents and caregivers to help that lasts beyond one afternoon.

That broader mission fits the way the Comanche County Health Department frames community baby showers as part of its free family-health offerings, alongside Parent Cafes and educational classes. Fit Kids of Southwest Oklahoma is also part of the organizing group, underscoring how the event has become a collaboration point for local agencies and community groups that work with young children and parents.

A related event listing says the goal is to provide information, connect people to resources and educate pregnant moms, new parents and caregivers. It also says the shower will include raffles, prizes, education, activities and games. That mix points to a familiar local strategy: make the event welcoming enough to draw families in, then use the day to put health and support services in front of them in one place.

The emphasis on services reflects a real need in Comanche County. The event listing says infant mortality remains an area of concern, which helps explain why organizers are building the shower as a practical support network rather than a social gathering. An earlier promotion also highlighted raffle incentives such as pack-and-plays and 3-in-1 car seats, showing how the event has paired education with concrete items that new parents need.

The baby shower also has history behind it. A 2024 listing placed the event at Central Plaza, and Fit Kids of Southwest Oklahoma described the 7th annual shower in a video promotion, signaling an outreach effort that has become a regular part of the county’s family-health calendar. Nearby child-safety work, including the Safe Haven Baby Box project tied to the Lawton Fire Department and the Comanche County Memorial Hospital Foundation, adds to the larger picture of a community still trying to close gaps for newborns and infants.
