Honesdale baby shower offers essentials, expert support for new families
Honesdale families will be able to pick out diapers, clothing and baby gear, while also meeting a doula, sleep expert and nutrition specialist at one stop.

A community baby shower in Honesdale is taking shape as a practical supply drive and support hub, not just a social gathering. Families who attend will be able to choose the items they need at Grace Episcopal Church, 827 Church Street, instead of leaving with a standard set of gifts.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is being organized by Owl & Friends, the Nobody Wayne Community Aid Network and other community partners. Ashley Springer, owner of Owl & Friends on Main Street, said the idea grew from a basic reality: having a child is hard, and communities are strongest when people step up to help one another.
Diapers, clothes and other baby essentials are already starting to come in at Owl & Friends, and organizers are collecting donations of both new and gently used items. The drive is aimed at newborns and families with young children, with Owl & Friends saying it serves children from newborn to school age. Donations can be dropped off at Grace Episcopal Church from April 20 to April 23, as well as at Owl & Friends and Camp Umpy’s during business hours.
The list of needed items goes beyond clothing and diapers. Organizers are also seeking bigger-ticket baby gear that can be difficult for families to afford on their own, including high chairs, strollers, bouncers and rockers. The event will also accept gently used baby clothing up to size T, making the distribution more flexible for families with different needs and stages.

What sets the shower apart is the added support built around the giveaway. Families will have access to a postpartum doula, a sleep expert, a nutrition specialist and a baby chiropractor, turning the event into a place to connect with both supplies and expertise. That mix reflects the broader pressures many new parents face, from basic outfitting costs to sleep, feeding and recovery needs in the earliest months after birth.
Grace Episcopal Church describes itself as an inclusive Episcopal church in the heart of Honesdale, with service and hospitality to the community as part of its mission. In that setting, the baby shower is being built as a local safety net, one that helps families leave with essentials, expert guidance and a clearer path to the support they need.
