Barcelona circuit to host GRAVITEO urban sports festival in July

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is set to host GRAVITEO Urban Sports Festival from July 17 to 19, bringing up to eight competitions in climbing, skateboarding, roller freestyle, scooter and urban culture to the Montmeló venue. The event will be open to the public with free advance registration, making it as much a citywide gathering as a competition platform.

The Circuit presented the festival on June 22 and described it as the largest meeting of urban and alternative sports. That framing matters for Barcelona’s fitness scene, because GRAVITEO is built less like a closed competition and more like a hybrid format that mixes sport, leisure, music, urban culture and family activities in one space. For clubs, gyms and community programs, the question is whether that atmosphere can do more than attract a crowd for one weekend and instead funnel new participants toward regular training.

El Periódico said the festival is backed by Prensa Ibérica and the Generalitat de Catalunya, with Berni Álvarez, the regional sports minister, placing it within a broad vision of Catalan sport. That institutional backing gives the project a different weight from a typical action-sports showcase. It also turns the Circuit, best known for motorsport, into a platform for disciplines that have often lived on the edge of the mainstream.

Barcelona already has the ingredients for that shift. El Periódico described the city as a major international reference point for skate, roller and scooter, helped by its spaces, climate and community. GRAVITEO is trying to convert that existing energy into a more structured pathway, where curiosity at a festival can lead to sustained practice at local clubs, training centers and community sessions across the city.

The timing adds another layer. Barcelona will also host the World Climbing Europe Championship Barcelona 2026 from July 17 to 19, putting the city on the calendar for both a multideiscipline urban festival and a major international climbing event in the same window. World Climbing, the new name for the IFSC, has already marked Barcelona in its official schedule, while World Skate has pointed to Barcelona’s role in the 2019 World Skate Games. Taken together, those dates show a city using a major venue not just to stage spectacle, but to position urban sports as part of Barcelona’s wider fitness economy.
