Costco flags new warehouse openings across multiple states, hiring ahead

Costco’s new-location page is doing more than naming future stores. It is laying out the company’s staffing pipeline, with coming-soon warehouses in North Visalia, California; Syracuse, Utah; Pensacola, Florida; S Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Albany, New York; Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; Otsego, Minnesota; and Mansfield, Texas. The page shows openings in May, June, July and August 2026, which gives employees an early read on where transfer chances, leadership openings and department hiring are likely to surface next.

That timing matters because Costco Careers says applicants can typically apply online to new locations under construction about 12 weeks before opening. In practice, that means hiring can begin while concrete work, equipment installs and merchandising setup are still underway. For front-end assistants, stockers, forklift operators, meat and bakery workers, optical staff and warehouse managers, the signal is clear: a new club can trigger a rush of applications, onboarding and department assignment long before the doors open to members.

The Albany-area warehouse is a useful example of how quickly a map pin turns into a labor event. Local reporting said the Guilderland location near Crossgates Mall will be about 163,000 square feet, with 18 member-only gas pumps and roughly 150 employees. It also pointed to an August 6, 2026 opening date. For Costco workers watching the internal ladder, that kind of build-out can mean a fresh opening for trained employees who want to move closer to home, step into a higher responsibility role or shift into a department that is short on experienced hands.

The broader company numbers show this is not a one-off expansion. Costco said in its fiscal 2025 annual report that it operated 914 warehouses worldwide at August 31, 2025, up from 890 a year earlier. The company said it opened 27 new warehouses in 2025, including three relocations, and it plans to open up to 35 new warehouses in 2026, including five relocations. Another report on the 2026 expansion said Costco is investing $6.5 billion and planning 28 new warehouses this year. Costco’s careers page also notes that its posted jobs are examples of the kinds of roles it may hire when openings exist, and that it does not currently operate in Wyoming, West Virginia or Rhode Island. For workers inside the chain, the new-location map is an early labor-market map too: it shows where Costco will need people next, and where the company is still building out its next round of staffing before the first pallets are even unloaded.
