Costco plans new Alberta warehouse, opening could come soon

Costco’s 165,000-square-foot warehouse at Bingham Crossing in Rocky View County is lined up for a fall 2026 opening, a move that will ripple through staffing at nearby Alberta stores before the first pallet even lands. The project sits in the first phase of Bingham Crossing west of Calgary, and its size points to a full opening crew, new department leads and a round of internal transfers.

The Bingham Crossing Joint Venture between Anthem Properties and Rencor Developments, with Trillium Realty Advisors representing institutional investors, said on Dec. 18, 2025, that it had closed the sale of 18 acres to Costco on Dec. 12, 2025. Alberta Major Projects lists the warehouse as part of the first phase and says Costco closed on an 18-acre parcel with Rencor in late 2025. Rocky View County issued a $25.8 million building permit for the wholesale warehouse in January 2026.

A site plan for the project also references a warehouse and gas bar, with a tire centre, liquor pod, propane station, seasonal garden centre and 863 total parking stalls. That mix signals more than a simple box store. It points to the kind of launch that needs payroll planning, trainer scheduling and merchandise flow built around opening-day traffic, especially if the fuel lane and seasonal yard are running alongside the warehouse floor from the start.

That kind of opening usually reaches well beyond one site. Front-end assistants, stockers, forklift operators, meat and bakery employees, optical staff and warehouse managers all tend to get pulled into the ramp-up, especially when a building is going from construction to grand-opening volume. Opening crews often include experienced workers from multiple departments, and that is where first-time leadership assignments can open up, from temporary leads to training roles that help a new warehouse reach steady operation.

The staffing effect can spill into nearby stores as well. New Costco warehouses often pull experienced retail workers out of competing chains and create transfer openings for current Costco employees who want to move, train or step into short-term assignments on the opening team. Costco Canada Careers says the company recruits across its locations and focuses on attracting, developing and retaining employees, which matters when a new warehouse is about to need cashiers, stockers and supervisors all at once.

For workers weighing whether to chase the opening, the pay scale matters. Narcity’s Costco jobs coverage says average pay at Costco in Canada can top $29 an hour, and cashiers can make more than $70,000 a year. In a region where one new warehouse can shift hiring patterns around Calgary and Springbank, that makes the Bingham Crossing build a staffing event as much as a retail expansion.
