Costco targets August 14 opening for first Otsego warehouse

Costco’s first Otsego warehouse will open Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, moving up from a later fall estimate and tightening the hiring and training calendar for the Twin Cities area. The store will sit at 11910 60th Street NE near the Otsego-Albertville border and the Interstate 94 interchange, making it the first Costco in Wright County and the 13th in Minnesota.

The new warehouse will include tire service, hearing aid, optical, pharmacy and a gas station. A Costco launch requires staffing the sales floor, registers, receiving, fuel and specialty counters at the same time.

Applications for new locations under construction open about 12 weeks before opening, which puts the Otsego hiring window in late May or early June. For workers looking to transfer, that leaves less slack for onboarding and scheduling. The first wave of hires centers on front-end assistants, stockers, forklift operators, fuel staff and the teams needed to run the tire center, optical department, hearing aid counter and pharmacy. As opening inventory lands, meat and bakery crews get pulled into the rush as well.

Warehouse employees spend their time preparing and displaying merchandise, learning the company’s merchandising approach, helping members and keeping locations clean and safe. With a compressed opening schedule, new hires have to learn the building fast, and experienced workers from nearby warehouses are shifted in to fill gaps until Otsego settles down.

City of Otsego records show Costco’s project was approved in 2024 and coordinated with Wright County’s CR 137 and I-94 interchange improvements planned across 2025 and 2026. That corridor work includes four roundabouts, with MacIver Avenue Northeast closed during construction and final restoration scheduled for August through October 2026. The I-94 West Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a ribbon cutting for Aug. 14 at 7:30 a.m., 30 minutes before the warehouse opens.
