Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising gets Id update with Switch 2 launch September 17

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising will add Id in Version 2.60 on September 17, the same day Cygames launches the Nintendo Switch 2 edition. That kind of synchronized release is the kind of signal Nintendo platform teams notice: it means the game’s update path, console storefront timing, and content certification are being lined up well enough to let a major DLC character, a new stage, and a new hardware version go live together.

Version 2.60 will not be a small balance patch. Cygames says it will add Id as a playable character, the Einstad Archipelago stage, and a new universal system that applies to every character, with more detailed balance notes still to come. For the people handling platform coordination, that matters because a fighting game patch of this size has to clear testing, localization, online stability checks, and deployment planning without slipping the Switch 2 launch window.

The Switch 2 edition itself points to a broader operational bet. Cygames says it will include all previously released DLC characters, bringing the roster to 40 playable fighters, along with local wireless multiplayer between Switch 2 consoles, Story Mode, and Digital Figure Mode. The package is designed to feel complete on day one, which is a different internal challenge from shipping a bare port and patching it later. It asks Nintendo and its publishing partners to align content approval, version parity, and network features before players ever see the store page.

The save-data link with Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok adds another layer. Players who connect their data will get an Id weapon skin and a lobby avatar of Lyria, called the Maiden of Salvation. That kind of cross-title reward only works if product, account, and release operations are speaking the same language, especially when Cygames is positioning Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising alongside Granblue Fantasy: Relink as one of its core console titles.

The timing also fits the way Cygames has supported GBVSR since its December 14, 2023 debut on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Steam. The official news feed shows Version 2.51 in March 2026, Version 2.50 in February 2026, and earlier updates this year, which makes the Switch 2 release look less like a one-off port than another step in an ongoing live-service schedule. Id’s first full playable appearance in GBVSR, after originating in Granblue Fantasy: Relink as a swordsman tied to the Zegagrande Skydom storyline, gives that schedule a marquee character to anchor it.
