Masato Kato's Another Eden Begins Launches September 2026 on Switch 2
Masato Kato, writer of Chrono Trigger, directs Another Eden Begins for Switch 2, launching September 17, 2026 in Japan with 10+ endings.

Masato Kato wrote the script for Chrono Trigger. Three decades later, he's running Studio Prisma, a newly formed internal team inside Wright Flyer Studios, and directing Another Eden Begins, a standalone time-travel JRPG confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in Japan on September 17, 2026.
The project is a reworked console reimagining of Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space, the free-to-play mobile RPG Wright Flyer Studios launched in Japan in April 2017. That original game reached global mobile platforms in January 2019 and arrived on PC via Steam on March 31, 2021, carving out a following by deliberately stripping away the gacha and social mechanics that defined most mobile RPGs of its era. The new version shares the same multiverse but fields a brand-new cast and a standalone story that requires no knowledge of the original.
The setup puts protagonist Aldo and his sister Feinne in the village of Baruoki until the Beast King takes Feinne captive, and Aldo is thrown 800 years into the future through a tear in spacetime. Combat is built around strategic command battles, character roles, and party synergies. The trailer shows 18 companions alongside Aldo, along with chain skill mechanics. The game offers more than 10 endings and a New Game+ mode that adds a new character to the story, opening additional narrative threads.
Kato's involvement gives the project unusual weight inside Nintendo's development ecosystem. His screenplay credits run from Chrono Trigger and Radical Dreamers through Xenogears, Chrono Cross, sections of Final Fantasy VII, and Final Fantasy XI, a body of work that shaped what console-narrative RPG design came to mean in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Wright Flyer Studios, a subsidiary of Japanese social gaming platform GREE, Inc., built Studio Prisma specifically to carry Another Eden Begins forward under his direction.
Yasunori Mitsuda, who scored Xenogears, Chrono Cross, and the Xenoblade series, composed the game's main theme. Orchestration with traditional folk instruments is handled by Procyon Studio, Mitsuda's own music label, the same imprint that released Another Eden's two-disc original soundtrack on September 27, 2017.

The localization scope is considerable: full English voice acting covers the complete main story, with launch-day language support in English, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Serial codes from the original Another Eden mobile game also carry over into the console and PC version. The Switch 2 physical release uses a Switch 2 Edition game card, with a limited edition available as well; Japanese physical pre-orders opened April 9, 2026.
"Masato Kato's storytelling is second to none, and Another Eden Begins will be just as unforgettable as our previous work," said Shinnosuke Hirasawa, Head of Studio Prisma.
The game was first shown at the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase in February 2026. No Western release date has been announced.
