Nintendo Adds Virtual Boy Classics to Switch Online Expansion Pack Feb. 17

Nintendo added Virtual Boy games to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack and listed a new hardware accessory described as a replica of the original Virtual Boy, with availability and membership rules tied to the company’s online tiers. The corporate product listing, updated Feb. 17, 2026, shows the accessory under SKU 120829 and marks the product release date as 2/17/2026.

Nintendo’s product text advertises, “Experience Virtual Boy with this add-on accessory that is a replica of the original hardware.” The listing names the item as “Virtual Boy for Nintendo Switch 2/Nintendo Switch accessory” and notes package contents including a stand, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 attachments, an eye shade and a lens cover; quantity is listed as 1 and the UPC present in the original listing is redacted in the copy provided to this report. The listing specifies that “Joy-Con or Joy-Con 2 controllers required” and that Nintendo Switch Lite is not compatible.

Access and purchase carry separate membership conditions in Nintendo’s copy. ComicBook framed the move by noting that “Virtual Boy games have finally joined the catalog of games that are accessible through Nintendo Switch Online” and that “Now, Nintendo has brought seven of these games to Switch Online, with plans to add more throughout 2026.” Nintendo’s listing itself uses the more cautious phrase, “Additional titles will be added in the future.”

The product text contains an ambiguous line that may affect buyers: “Virtual Boy for Nintendo Switch 2/Nintendo Switch and Virtual Boy (Cardboard Model) for Nintendo Switch 2/Nintendo Switch are required to play the Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics collection of games.” That wording could be read to require both a replica accessory and a separate cardboard model, or to describe two variant accessory options; Nintendo has not clarified which interpretation is correct. Nintendo will need to clarify membership purchase rules, the cardboard model wording, regional availability and controller nomenclature as the company adds titles through 2026.
