Nintendo is using a modest hardware discount to manage perception, not to change the sticker price story. Through May 9, buyers can save $20 on a new Switch 2 system when they buy it with Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, a limited-time offer at select retailers with savings that may vary by store.

The bundle matters because of what it includes and what it is meant to signal. Nintendo is pairing its newest hardware with a prestige Mario collection that is already positioned as a value add on both systems: the Galaxy games are playable on Nintendo Switch, and a free update makes them available for Nintendo Switch 2. The My Nintendo Store listing says the collection includes enhanced resolution, improved UI, extra Storybook Chapters and a new Assist Mode, with 4K resolution on Switch 2 for supported games and compatible displays.

That design gives Nintendo flexibility. The company can talk about affordability without writing down the base console price, while still protecting the premium image of a system that launched in the U.S. at $449.99. Nintendo also introduced a $499.99 Switch 2 plus Mario Kart World bundle at launch, a sign that its merchandising strategy has leaned on software-led value from the start rather than broad markdowns.

For teams inside Nintendo, this is not just a retail promo. It is a test of how well hardware, software, retail partners and marketing can work as one system. A $20 bundle only does its job if the console page, game page, retailer messaging and channel execution all line up. For business teams, the offer speaks to attach-rate planning and how Nintendo keeps a new platform feeling premium while still giving fence-sitters a reason to move now. For development teams, it is another reminder that launch support, feature messaging and upgrade paths all shape how a release lands in the market.

The broader context is still strong. Nintendo said U.S. Switch 2 pre-orders began on April 24, 2025, and the system launched on June 5, 2025. It later said Switch 2 sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide in its first four days, the fastest start for any Nintendo hardware. The official system page says Switch 2 has a 7.9-inch 1080p screen, supports 4K output through the dock on compatible TVs and includes 256GB of internal storage.

Against that backdrop, the Galaxy bundle looks less like a discount and more like controlled merchandising. Nintendo is nudging consumers toward a familiar, family-friendly franchise while keeping its pricing architecture intact, which is exactly the kind of value management a quality-first company wants to preserve.
