New York State Police Arrest Laurens Woman for Walmart Grand Larceny
Sherry A. Ashmore, 54, of Laurens was arrested March 15 after allegedly stealing more than $1,000 from the Oneonta Walmart on State Route 23.

New York State Police arrested a Laurens woman on grand larceny charges after she allegedly stole more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from the Walmart on State Route 23 in the town of Oneonta, Otsego County.
Sherry A. Ashmore, 54, was taken into custody on March 15. State Police announced the arrest two days later, on March 17, 2026.
The Oneonta Walmart on Route 23 has drawn repeated police attention in recent weeks. Troopers were first called to the store at 2:29 p.m. on February 25 after a report of a larceny. That investigation identified Janice K. Horton, 71, of Deposit, as the suspect. Horton returned to the store on March 31 and allegedly took more items without paying. She was arrested the same day and charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony, for the February 25 incident, and with both third-degree burglary and fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony, in connection with the March 31 theft. Horton was taken to Otsego County Jail and arraigned in Centralized Arraignment court.
State Police were called back to the same store on March 26 after additional items were reported stolen. An investigation led to the March 30 arrests of Emma Ann Healey, 23, and Dillon T. Hendrickson, 24, both of Walton, and John P. Hendrickson, 51, of Bainbridge. Each was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony. All three were issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in Town of Oneonta Court on April 16.

The string of arrests at the Oneonta store follows a separate case from late 2024 involving Steven G. Warner, 36, of Endicott. Troopers dispatched by the Otsego County 911 Center found Warner outside the Walmart after he had passed all points of sale without paying for items in his shopping cart. Warner became combative and resisted arrest before being placed in custody. Investigators determined he stole more than $5,000 worth of merchandise from the Oneonta location. They also found that items in his vehicle had been taken from the Walmart in Cobleskill earlier that same day, December 31, 2024, with that theft valued at more than $4,000. The vehicle had switched license plates, and troopers found suspected illicit substances and what appeared to be additional stolen goods inside. Warner was processed at State Police Oneonta, transferred to Otsego County Jail, and turned over to Cobleskill troopers on January 1, 2025. He was charged with the class D felony of grand larceny in the third degree for the Cobleskill theft, along with misdemeanor charges of obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.
A separate theft case in Saratoga County involved Kariana Williams, 33, of Schenectady, who was arrested after the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office responded to the Wilton Walmart shortly before 4 p.m. on a Saturday following a complaint. Williams was accused of stealing more than $1,000 worth of property and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony. She was released on an appearance ticket in Wilton Town Court and turned over to the Glenville Police Department on an existing warrant.
