Ocala Walmart Employee Charged With 40 Thefts Over Two Months
A 21-year-old Ocala Walmart worker allegedly stole chips, soda, and Lunchables 38 times over 10 weeks — totaling just $157.18.

A 21-year-old Walmart employee in Ocala was arrested last week after loss prevention staff uncovered 38 alleged theft transactions spanning nearly two and a half months, with total losses adding up to $157.18.
Jafet Alberto Martinez Ruiz allegedly began stealing from the Walmart at 34 Bahia Avenue on December 28, 2025, and continued through March 7, 2026, according to a Marion County Sheriff's Office arrest report. A loss prevention associate identified the pattern and notified MCSO, prompting a deputy to respond to the store at around 10 p.m. last Friday.
The alleged method was consistent across all 38 transactions: Martinez Ruiz would scan one item, then place multiple unscanned items into the bag. The items taken included bags of chips, bottles of soda, several Lunchables, and a breakfast sandwich. An MCSO deputy noted in the report that all 38 transactions added up to a total loss of $157.18.
After being advised of his Miranda rights, Martinez Ruiz told investigators he "took the items" because he had been "going through a rough time." He also said he "did not have enough money for food" because Walmart was unable to provide him with full-time benefits.

Martinez Ruiz was booked into Marion County Jail and released the following day after posting bond. He is charged with fraudulently obtaining property under $20,000. Jail records list a court appearance at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
Whether Martinez Ruiz remains employed at the store was not disclosed, and Walmart had not issued a public comment as of the arrest report's publication.
