Oceanside Walmart Evacuated After Bomb Threat, K-9 Units Clear Store
An anonymous caller claimed bombs were inside the Vista Way store; K-9 units swept the scene for nearly four hours before police declared no credible threat.

An anonymous caller triggered a four-hour response at the Oceanside Walmart on Vista Way last Tuesday, sending employees to a nearby parking lot and drawing explosive-detection K-9 units from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department before authorities declared the threat unfounded.
The Oceanside Police Department received the call reporting a bomb threat in the 2100 block of Vista Way near Jefferson Street at around 4:08 p.m., according to OPD. Patch reported the call came in closer to 4:30 p.m., with an anonymous source claiming there were bombs inside the store. Officers immediately began precautionary evacuations of the Walmart and several nearby businesses as they assessed the situation. Walmart employees gathered in a nearby parking lot while police vehicles blocked access to the store's intersection.
The Oceanside Fire Department also responded, alongside the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Bomb/Arson Unit, which deployed explosive-detection K-9s to assist in the investigation. Authorities cleared the scene around 8 p.m. and determined there was no credible threat.
"Officers evacuated the Walmart and nearby stores to investigate if there was a credible threat," said Gina Avalos, a spokesperson for the Oceanside Police Department.

Whether the store reopened to customers that evening remained unclear. It was not confirmed whether K-9 teams conducted an interior sweep, found any suspicious items, or whether the anonymous call could be traced.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Oceanside Police Department at (760) 435-4900.
