Meghan Markle has given her Stella McCartney reception dress a second life, and it is a compelling case for buying a wedding gown with more than one occasion in mind. In new As Ever imagery, she wore the backless, sleeveless white silk-crepe halterneck barefoot, with an oversized cream blazer and a low bun, letting the dress read less like a one-night relic and more like a piece of polished wardrobe architecture.

The gown itself carries plenty of fashion history. Meghan wore it on May 19, 2018, when she and Prince Harry were married at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, then changed into the Stella McCartney design for the evening reception at Frogmore House. Their wedding drew more than 2 billion viewers worldwide, which makes this reappearance feel even sharper: one of the most watched bridal looks of the decade is now being styled for a domestic, lifestyle-driven campaign built around afternoon tea and the soft-focus world of As Ever. That brand, launched in 2025, sold through its first collection quickly, and the new imagery keeps leaning into home, family and hosting, the same world Meghan and Harry share with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The reason this dress works again is simple: its details are flexible. A halterneck frames the shoulders cleanly, the open back keeps it dramatic without relying on heavy embellishment, and the silk-crepe finish gives it enough structure to hold its shape under a blazer or a cardigan. That is exactly the kind of bridal design worth the investment, because it can move from ceremony to reception, then into an anniversary dinner, a private party or a carefully styled daytime appearance without looking dressed up for the wrong hour. Meghan had already nodded back to the silhouette in her 2024 ESPY Awards look, which echoed the same high-neck, bare-shouldered line.

There is also a clear royal precedent for this kind of fashion recycling. Queen Camilla rewore her 2005 civil wedding outfit on April 9, 2025, during the couple’s 20th anniversary state visit to Italy, after Anna Valentine updated it with embroidery by Beth Somerville of the King’s Foundation. Camilla had worn the same outfit again in June 2007 for the opening of the Welsh Parliament. Stella McCartney has long argued for clothes that last, and Meghan’s latest appearance makes that philosophy feel less like a slogan and more like a blueprint for modern bridal shopping: choose the gown that can survive the aisle, then live well after it.
