Raffia has found its way onto one of footwear's most recognizable silhouettes. Birkenstock and Staud reunited for spring 2026 with limited-edition updates to the Arizona Big Buckle and Madrid Big Buckle sandals, reimagined in a raffia-textured finish and finished in a warm new shade called "Carafe," trimmed with gold hardware.

The update is a direct extension of Staud's woven-leather signatures. Sarah "Staud" Staudinger, co-founder and creative director of the Los Angeles label, called the raffia finish "a fresh interpretation of woven leather, a signature element of Staud's design DNA, bringing texture and dimension in a way that feels both elevated and timeless, while pairing seamlessly with our new spring collection." The woven surface sits atop Birkenstock's signature contoured cork footbed, keeping the collaboration grounded in the comfort architecture the German brand is known for.

Staudinger described the aesthetic intent simply: "Easy yet polished, the styles are designed with an effortless sensibility for the warmer days ahead." That city-to-surf sensibility is deliberate. The duo positioned the sandals around a Los Angeles lifestyle narrative, the kind of effortless dressing that moves from a farmers market to the sand without missing a beat.

Pricing places these squarely in elevated-collaboration territory. The Arizona Big Buckle retails for $210, while the single-strap Madrid Big Buckle comes in at $190. For context, standard Birkenstock Arizona sandals typically retail between $60 and $160 depending on material and finish, so the Staud premium reflects both the limited-edition status and the woven-texture detailing that a basic EVA or oiled-leather model doesn't offer.

Both styles are available in store and online exclusively through Birkenstock, Staud, and Bloomingdale's. The Bloomingdale's placement is worth noting: it aligns with the retailer's own spring campaign, which has centered on a California lifestyle theme this season. Given the limited-edition designation, these are not styles that will wait for a second look.
