Thom Browne has never made an athletic sneaker before. That changes with his debut collaboration with ASICS, a three-colorway GEL-Kayano 14 pack built on the ASICS Sportstyle silhouette and finished with the kind of precision detailing more commonly found on a Savile Row suit than a running shoe.

First unveiled during Super Bowl weekend in February, the collection arrived in grey, black, and white. The black and grey versions are rendered in suede, a material choice that immediately repositions the GEL-Kayano 14 from its performance-court origins into something far quieter and more considered. Each colorway takes a monochrome approach, with ASICS' classic performance-driven architecture kept intact and Browne's signature red, white, and blue stripe logo providing the sole chromatic punctuation.

The tailoring references go beyond surface branding. Piping accents echo Browne's precise tipping, the technique borrowed directly from his suiting vocabulary. A cross-stitch finishing runs across the iconic ASICS stripes, translating a construction detail from outerwear into footwear with the kind of specificity that rewards close looking. Inside, the insole carries dual Thom Browne and ASICS branding alongside Browne's university stripe, with the stripe colorway calibrated by shoe: red, white, and blue for the white and black versions, and grey and white for the grey.

Browne told WWD that he has "long admired" ASICS' approach to design and collaboration, a relationship grounded in genuine personal history. "Through personal use of the product growing up to working closely together on the Thom Browne for Asics Gel-Kayano 14, the result showcases the mutual respect our brands have for one another," he said. His design brief was characteristically direct: "Showcasing Asics iconic silhouette with my signature tailoring codes, a technical sneaker that looks just as good in the office as it does on the field."

Colin Brickley, director of sales at ASICS Sportstyle, described the project as an "exceptional collaboration" rooted in a shared commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and timeless design. WWD noted the historical significance plainly: this marks the first time Browne has released an athletic sneaker, and a first-of-its-kind collaboration for his brand.

The pack retails at $450 and is available at thombrowne.com and in Thom Browne stores. At that price point, it sits firmly within the upper register of designer sneaker collaborations, though the suede construction and hand-finishing details justify the positioning for anyone who has watched Browne translate tailoring logic into non-traditional formats before. The GEL-Kayano 14 silhouette, meanwhile, has been one of ASICS' most active canvases of late, with the brand also releasing Light Navy and Raw Indigo treatments in recent months. Browne's version stands apart from those through sheer restraint: where others bring color, he brings craft.
