Uniqlo is executing the most aggressive U.S. brick-and-mortar push in its American history, with 11 new stores confirmed across the country for spring and summer 2026. The rollout is already underway: in New York City, stores in Williamsburg at 187 Kent Avenue in Brooklyn and Bryant Park at 510 Fifth Avenue are open, with a third Manhattan location following close behind. The Union Square store at 860 Broadway opened April 3, adding to what is becoming a formidable New York footprint. Boston's Downtown Crossing location at 399 Washington Street is slated to open April 10, and the Chicago flagship at 600 N. Michigan Avenue is also scheduled to open imminently.

The Chicago and San Francisco flagships will mark Uniqlo's first major flagship openings outside New York City in the U.S., a distinction that underscores how deliberately the brand has calibrated its American presence for two decades. The San Francisco flagship is planned for 801 Market Street. Beyond the flagships, additional stores will open in Boston, Seattle, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. The Maryland entry is specifically at the Annapolis Mall. Together, these locations will bring Uniqlo's U.S. store count to nearly 90.

The timing is pointed. This expansion year coincides with the 20th anniversary of the UNIQLO SoHo Global Flagship, the first UNIQLO global flagship outside Japan. UNIQLO USA CEO Fuminori Adachi framed the moment in personal terms: "Celebrating 20 years in New York City is deeply meaningful for us, and 2026 marks an exciting next chapter for Uniqlo in the U.S. These new stores are not only a milestone of our growth, but a way of honoring the customers who welcomed us two decades ago and continue to inspire everything we do. Our strategy is about thoughtful growth, opening the right stores in the right places, while ensuring every location reflects our customer's voices and delivers a meaningful, high-quality experience."

The stores are built around a consistent service architecture that sets them apart from fast-fashion competitors. Standard features include RFID self-checkout stations, on-site alterations, and Re:Uniqlo donation bins supporting circularity. Select stores also offer UTme!, a customizable T-shirt and tote bag service, and Re:Uniqlo Studios, where customers can personalize or repair their favorite pieces through embroidery and mending. The repair and customization offering, in particular, positions Uniqlo in a space that most mass-market retailers still treat as an afterthought.

Uniqlo was founded in Hiroshima, Japan, in 1984, when Tadashi Yanai transformed his family's tailoring shop into a new kind of store dedicated to simple, high-quality casualwear for all. Today, guided by Japanese principles of simplicity, quality, and longevity, the brand continues to create LifeWear that enriches everyday life. Uniqlo now operates more than 2,500 stores worldwide, including 78 in the United States.

In its latest quarter, Uniqlo International reported that revenue increased 8.3% to nearly 443 billion yen, with North America reporting higher revenue and profit, providing the financial tailwind behind this expansion. Eleven new stores in a single season represents a bet that American consumers, drawn to Uniqlo's utilitarian precision and its LifeWear proposition, are ready to meet the brand closer to home.
