Balletcore has been inching toward something more engineered for a while. The flat, ribbon-tied slipper was always a transitional moment; the more durable evolution required a performance label to crack the formula. On April 9, Zendaya and Law Roach confirmed exactly where that evolution lands, unveiling the Cloudnova Moon as the centrepiece of their first full co-created footwear and apparel collection with Swiss sportswear brand On.

The Cloudnova Moon is the third shoe Zendaya and Roach have worked on with On, and it is On's answer to the ballet sneaker moment. The construction is precise in its restraint: a low-profile silhouette with perforated mesh running from toe-to-heel that wraps the foot like a glove, with elasticized criss-cross velcro straps replacing traditional laces entirely. The effect is sculptural rather than sporty. On's signature CloudTec sole sits beneath it, but above the midsole, the shoe reads like something from a studio wardrobe.

The campaign, titled "Shape of Dreams," is a cinematic short film directed by Academy Award-winning director Spike Jonze, and it launched on April 9, 2026. Jonze, who made his name filming skate videos before going Hollywood, brings a distinctive creative lens to what is, at its core, a sportswear product launch. The result feels less like advertising than like a short film in which Zendaya happens to be wearing very good shoes.

This marks Zendaya's first full apparel assortment as part of her ongoing partnership with On, which began in June 2024. She described the goal plainly: "pieces that feel versatile and easy to wear." That directness shows in the apparel line. The collection features half-zip anoraks, drawstring midi skirts, and parachute pants alongside the Cloudnova Moon. Nothing is overwrought, and that restraint is what makes the sneaker wearable across contexts rather than confined to a single aesthetic register.

Three styling routes emerge naturally from the collection's palette and silhouettes. For the office, the Bermuda shorts paired with the Cloudnova Moon in Wolf Alloy, a warm off-white, keeps the proportion grounded and the shoe from reading as athleisure. On weekends, the Fig colourway, a dusty rose, worn with the drawstring midi skirt is the sneakerina impulse made intentional rather than costume-y. For travel, Black Ink with the half-zip anorak is one palette, zero decisions at the airport, and enough structure to go from gate to meeting without changing.

The Cloudnova Moon releases on April 16, 2026, in four colourways: Wolf Alloy, Dew Spruce, Fig, and Black Ink, through On's website, On stores, and select retailers worldwide.

That balletcore arrived here through performance engineering rather than through a fashion week runway is the real story. The sneakerina started as a mood board. With On's construction behind it and Roach shaping the silhouette, it now has a sole worth actually standing in.
