India Water Foundation Wins Water Stewardship Award at Bio-Tex Fashion and Circularity Awards 2026

The India Water Foundation picked up the Water Stewardship & Environmental Resilience Award at the BioTex Fashion & Circularity Awards 2026, with the recognition centered on something the fashion industry rarely wants to talk about plainly: textiles are one of the most resource-intensive industries on the planet, and water is the resource it burns through fastest.

The award, announced out of New Delhi and Gurugram on 13 March 2026, cited IWF's leadership in advancing responsible resource governance and promoting environmentally conscious practices across sectors, including the textile and fashion ecosystem. The Foundation was acknowledged specifically for its long-standing work in strengthening stewardship practices, ecological balance, and efficient resource management, all of which the BioTex organisers framed as key priorities for the textile sector.

Dr. Arvind Kumar, President of the India Water Foundation, said efficient resource management is central to building future-ready industries and circular economies. He noted that sectors such as textiles must embed stewardship, efficiency, and environmental responsibility within their core production systems to ensure long-term viability. It's the kind of language that sounds measured until you remember that fashion's water footprint runs to trillions of litres annually, and most brands still treat it as someone else's problem.

IWF's case for the award rests on its track record across research, policy advocacy, international dialogue platforms, and multi-stakeholder partnerships linking natural resource management, climate action, and responsible industrial growth. The Foundation has positioned itself as a bridge between policymakers, industry leaders, and environmental experts, contributing to forward-looking policy thinking rather than operating purely as an advocacy body on the margins.

The BioTex recognition wasn't the only institutional nod IWF received in early 2026. On 12 February, the Nurserymen Association of India honoured the Foundation during Prakriti Diwas at the India International Centre in New Delhi, citing outstanding contributions across water conservation, environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and community empowerment. The event drew Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, former Minister of Education and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, alongside K. C. Tyagi, former Member of Lok Sabha, and Sunita Narain, Director General of the Centre for Science and Environment. Pokhriyal Nishank noted that India's developmental journey must be anchored in ecological wisdom and that institutions like IWF are playing a pivotal role in bridging policy, science, and grassroots action. He emphasised that water conservation and afforestation must go hand in hand to ensure long-term climate resilience.

IWF also runs its own recognition infrastructure: the Water Transversality Global Awards and Conclave, which the Foundation launched in 2024 as the first programme of its kind globally to celebrate interdisciplinary contributions to water's role in sustainable development. That programme targets contributions that cut across disciplinary boundaries, which makes the BioTex win a kind of mirror image, with a fashion-sector award body turning its attention to a water governance organisation that has spent years making exactly that case to industries that prefer to look away.
