Hotel Metropolitan Ikebukuro Debuts Limited Sweet Topiary Mother's Day Cake for 2026

The carnation has long been Japan's shorthand for Mother's Day, but Hotel Metropolitan Ikebukuro is offering a more edible alternative. The Cake & Bakery Shop on the hotel's ground floor is bringing back its limited-quantity "Sweet Topiary" cake for 2026, a 13-centimeter dome sized for two to three people and priced at ¥4,000, tax included.

The concept draws directly from the garden art form for which it's named. "Inspired by the decorative art of 'topiary' — the technique of sculpting plants or artificial flowers into three-dimensional spherical forms — the cake makes an elegant alternative to the traditional Mother's Day carnation gift." Inside that sphere: strawberries, melon, and other seasonal fruit layered with the hotel's lightly sweetened cream chantilly, finished with edible flowers.
