APA Announces Detroit Amateur Open at Wicked Pickle as Regionals Ramp Up
APA will stage the Detroit Amateur Open at Wicked Pickle Feb. 28–Mar. 1, open to 2.5–5.0 players with a 6-game guarantee and early-bird entries at $75/$55/$35.

The Amateur Pickleball Association will bring the Detroit Amateur Open to Wicked Pickle in Westland, Michigan, running February 28 to March 1, 2026, at 36871 Warren Rd. The event is described as a “multi‑flight regional amateur event … geared to hobby players and weekend competitor,” and is open to players rated 2.5-5.0, according to the event page.
Match play is set up as round-robin with brackets to follow, and the event page notes “Formatting includes round-robin play with brackets to follow with the majority of players competing in 7-9 games during this event.” Organizers list a 6-game guarantee and an explicit match scoring format: doubles will use single-game round-robin matches played to 11, win by 2, followed by brackets, while singles will use rally scoring to 21, win by 2. The posted schedule template shows Doubles starting at 8am or later on Saturday, Mixed Doubles at 8am or later on Sunday, and Singles slotted in the afternoons on either day.
Players registering will be redirected to the Pickleball Brackets platform to complete sign-up; the site copy states, “You’ll be redirected to Pickleball Brackets to complete registration at this point. Connect your DUPR account and enjoy PicklePerks at all tournaments in 2025!” Apatournaments also lists step-by-step getting started instructions: click EVENTS on the navigation toolbar, find the tournament and click View Details, then click the Sign Up link. The event page highlights the PicklePerks rewards program in its registration flow.
Early-bird registration rates are listed on the event page as “Registration Rates – Early Bird $75 for first event, $55 for second, $35 for third (email director for a discount code for a 3rd event).” That tiered pricing structure encourages multiple-event entry and includes a note to contact the event director for a third-event discount code.

APA promotional material on the event page places the Detroit stop inside a broader regional schedule; the organization’s copy asserts that “The Amateur Pickleball Association (APA) is focused on the growth and development of pickleball through tournament formats curated by the player in order to provide an exceptional experience for the player.” The APA network listed on the events calendar includes the Delaware Valley Border Battle at The Picklr Newark on February 21-22, the Indiana Amateur Open at The Dink House on February 28-March 1, the Oregon Amateur Open at Sunriver Resort on March 7-8, and a slate of late-March and April Amateur Opens and Gold Cups across Florida, Illinois, Arizona, and Minnesota.
Wicked Pickle posted a photo to Instagram on February 19, 2026, captioned “We are back in 2026 with the Detroit Amateur Open at Wicked Pickle powered by Amateur,” a fragment that appears on the venue’s social feed. Event pages also emphasize administrative details such as DUPR linkage and the PicklePerks program messaging; the Pickleball Doctors event page repeats the APA claim that the association is the largest amateur player tour and references “nearly 150 tournaments planned for 2025,” language that appears alongside 2026 event dates in the listings.
Expect registrations to flow through Pickleball Brackets in the coming days and for the Wicked Pickle weekend to follow the posted doubles-mixed-singles template, with the 6-game guarantee and the 11-to-win doubles format central to match scheduling.
