General manager and instructor Chris Mooney wanted a facility, and now Auckland has one. The Auckland Pickleball Centre opened on March 1 at 6 Clemow Drive, Mount Wellington, becoming the city's first purpose-built indoor pickleball venue with seven premium courts and daily hours running from 6:00am to 10:00pm.

The location sits right behind Sylvia Park, near IKEA, with on-site parking and direct train and bus access, putting it within easy reach of Greenlane, Ellerslie, and Remuera. For a sport that has spent years piecing together court time in multi-use recreation centres and community halls, the permanence of a dedicated address is no small thing.

Heading the coaching program is Luke Addison, a certified IPTPA Level I and Level II coach who operates under his own Addison Pickleball Coaching banner. "I'm incredibly happy to call this facility my permanent coaching home, and I look forward to welcoming both new and experienced players to the courts," Addison said. The APC coaching menu runs from private one-on-one lessons and guided drilling sessions through to doubles strategy and guided match play, with group sessions designed to connect players of similar levels.

Beyond coaching, the centre positions itself as a competition hub, with plans to support tournaments, leagues, and community events across the Auckland region. Membership options are available through the centre's online portal, and coaching bookings run through Addison Pickleball Coaching's dedicated booking page.

One practical note for anyone heading down: non-marking court shoes are mandatory. Players without the correct footwear will not be allowed on the courts.

Auckland's broader pickleball scene continues to operate across multiple suburban venues. Te Pai Pickleball runs sessions at Te Atatu Peninsula Community Centre on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with separate programming at Netball Waitakere in Henderson. Albany Pickleball holds sessions on Thursday evenings and Friday mornings at 321 Oteha Valley Road. Pickleball Browns Bay operates out of the East Coast Bay Leisure Centre on Bute Street, with contact through Peter Curham at bbpickleball7@gmail.com.

The APC team, comprising Chris Mooney, Garry, and Luke Addison, can be reached at info@aucklandpickleballcentre.com or on +64 21 070 6500. The centre is open seven days at 6 Clemow Drive, Mount Wellington.
