Cromtigers pakken eerste seizoenszege in thuisduel met Flying Petrels
Cromtigers’ first home game became its first win, powered by 13 hits, seven walks and seven strong innings from Siebe van Pelt before a trip to Enschede.

Cromtigers turned its first home game into a clear season marker, beating Flying Petrels in seven innings and finally putting a win next to the early work of coach Just van Heems. For Assendelft, the value was immediate: the batting order kept traffic on the bases, the starter went deep, and the defence held firm long enough to make the first home day feel like a statement rather than just another result.
What changed most was the way Cromtigers controlled the game at the plate. The home side collected 13 hits and drew seven walks, spread across six innings, which kept pressure on the Purmerend pitchers from the first frame onward. Van Heems said the young pitchers of Flying Petrels struggled with their control, and Cromtigers made that problem hurt by refusing to give away outs. That mix of contact and patience is exactly what has been missing in many early-season games around the region: when a lineup keeps extending innings, one big hit is no longer required to do the damage.
Siebe van Pelt gave Cromtigers the other half of the formula. The starting pitcher worked seven innings and held Flying Petrels in check, while the defence behind him stayed solid throughout the game. That combination mattered because it showed Cromtigers could win in more than one way: not just by scoring, but by preventing any real comeback. In the opening weeks, that balance has been the difference between a promising start and a finished result.
The win also matters in the broader Noord-Holland cluster of the KNBSB competition, where Cromtigers faces familiar regional opponents such as Flying Petrels, Alcmaria Victrix, Double Stars Heiloo, Herons and Odiz Frogs. With the first home victory now in the books, Assendelft has something more concrete to build on than just a decent first impression. It was the kind of game that can shift expectations, because it showed a team that can score early, stay patient, and then close the door from the mound.
The test comes quickly. Cromtigers travels to Enschede on Sunday for an away game against Tex Town Tigers, a matchup that will tell more about whether this was a one-off home surge or the start of a more stable level. That is especially relevant for a club that calls itself a broad honk- en softbalvereniging and plays from its own complex in Assendelft, with both a baseball field and a softball field at the heart of its setup. For Flying Petrels, the afternoon carried a more sombre backdrop too, after the club recently marked the death of former coach Jan Prins at the age of 91.
