Black Ops 7 Endgame's Season 3 centerpiece, Operation Poison Pill, is not a playlist you drop into casually and grind out between matches. It's a ten-step meta-progression loop that starts in Zone 1 with manageable objectives and ends in Zone 4 at Nightmare difficulty, with a teleporting Guild Robot trying to missile-strike you into the dirt. If you're walking in blind, you're going to waste runs. Here's how to approach it properly.

What the Operation Actually Is

Operation Poison Pill is a season-long set of missions exclusive to Black Ops 7 Endgame, structured into ten sequential steps. You cannot skip steps. Each one must be completed in full before the next unlocks, and the objectives inside each step span everything from kill-count thresholds and scorestreak eliminations to pickup interactions and timed survival segments. All of it is tracked in real time via the Tac Map in-game, and critically: your progress carries between deployments. As long as you exfil successfully, your step progress survives the match. Only a failed exfil risks your loadout, not your operation state.

The ten steps escalate through the map's zone tiers. Early steps sit comfortably in Zone 1, where enemies are slow and the toxin levels are low. By Step 7, labeled "The Red Mist," the operation develops a sharp edge: you need 100 critical kills (headshots only) on Fear-type enemies while simultaneously farming special zombie types including Manglers, Doppelgasts, and Mimics, then close out the step by killing an elite Disciple, the tankiest standard enemy type in the zone. Step 8, "Elite Hunt," pushes you into Zone 4 territory, where enemies shoot back with intent and a low Combat Rating is a liability you cannot ignore. The final step culminates in the Link Forger Glitch Fracture, the operation's hardest encounter and the gate to its best rewards.

Pre-Match Setup: What to Bring

Treat every Endgame run with at least the same preparation you'd give a raid. Before you queue, lock in your role within the squad. A functional team for mid-to-late steps needs three distinct contributions:

• A high-AP (area pressure) damage dealer tuned for sustained AoE output, not burst dueling
• A support or self-sustain build carrying healing consumables and uptime extenders
• A utility or crowd-control role capable of managing elite spawns and zoning off objectives

Single-shot DPS builds designed for 1v1 encounters consistently underperform in PvE encounters where the objective is zone control and enemy suppression, not eliminating a single target fast. Bring the right tool for the job.

On the resource side, plan your token and vault resource farming across multiple matches if you're not attempting the final steps in one session. Don't arrive at a late step without exotic weapons or skills in your loadout. The Glitch Fracture specifically requires you to have upgraded at least one weapon at an Exotic Fabricator or to carry an exotic weapon before entering; switching utility bonuses or exotic effects also satisfies this requirement. Come prepared, not improvised.

For Combat Rating, the threshold matters more than most players acknowledge early on. Attempting the elite encounters in Zone 3 or Zone 4 with a Combat Rating that looks like a rejected loan application is the fastest way to turn a viable run into a carry request. CR rises faster through activities than basic kills, so prioritize assignments and objectives in the early zones to build your rating before you push inward.

Communication and Objective Assignments

Before match start, assign responsibilities explicitly. Decide who picks up and tracks objectives on the Tac Map, who defends supply caches, and who manages extractions. For timed objectives, specifically, you want a single primary controller handling the interaction. Multiple players attempting to control a timed vote or interaction simultaneously causes failed activations and wastes the clock. Nominate one person, everyone else covers flanks.

Rotating responsibilities across your squad's sessions also matters for sustained progress. One member focuses on spawns and scoring, another monitors boss phase windows. Clan teams that rotate these roles between runs clear steps faster than groups where everyone improvises the same job.

Boss Mechanics: The Skybreaker and the Glitch Fracture

The Link Forger Glitch Fracture is the operation's payoff and its hardest ask. To unlock it, you first need to kill the OSCAR Strike Boss, spawned at the Oscar Inbound Activity located at the Winery. Once OSCAR falls, the Link Forger Glitch Fracture is permanently revealed at the bottom of the map in Old Arsenal.

Inside the fracture, you'll face six distinct Glitch Waves spread across three Glitch Sectors:

The Skybreaker is the final obstacle: a teleporting Guild Robot that calls down missile strikes and refuses to hold still when you find a good angle. Spread your squad, keep mobile at all times, and use the AAROW Launcher for burst damage during the pause windows between its teleports. Bring decoys to distract the smaller adds that spawn alongside it. Tunneling on the Skybreaker while ignoring add management is the most common reason squads wipe during this phase.

On elite enemy spawns at any point in the operation, the priority sequence is always crowd-control first, then burn on the boss during its vulnerable window. A team that controls spawns and zones wins; a team that ignores spawns chasing a boss DPS race doesn't.

Common Mistakes That Will Cost You Runs

The failure patterns in Operation Poison Pill are consistent enough to be predictable:

• Attempting high-step content with builds designed for PvP duels rather than sustained PvE output
• Skipping the early steps to "try" late encounters without understanding phase mechanics
• Not leveling prerequisite weapon rarities or exotic skills before attempting Zone 3 and Zone 4 content
• Bringing a pickup group into the Glitch Fracture without assigning Voxilor and Skybreaker responsibilities beforehand

The fix for almost all of these is the same: run low-step content first, watch a full successful run of the Glitch Fracture before your first attempt, and don't mistake "I've played a lot of Endgame" for "I'm ready for Nightmare difficulty encounters." The mode rewards preparation structurally; it is not designed to be winged.

What You're Playing For

Clearing Operation Poison Pill in full yields some of Season 3's most distinct cosmetics. Defeating the Link Forger Glitch Boss while playing as Mason, Grimm, or Anderson earns the "Override" Operator Skin for that character. Earn one Override skin and you unlock the "Blighted" Weapon Camo. Earn all three Override skins and you unlock the "Virulent" Animated Weapon Camo. The Venomous Override AAROW blueprint rounds out the prize pool.

Every step in the operation rewards progress incrementally, so even partial completion has value, but the full cosmetic set is gated behind the Glitch Fracture clear.
