Raven Software confirmed the return of traditional Battle Royale Quads and Battle Royale Casual Quads to Warzone with a playlist update that went live following the announcement. The official post laying out the update was direct: "Tomorrow at 10 AM PT, a major update will roll out to the playlists, introducing traditional Battle Royale Quads and Battle Royale Casual Quads!"

The move responds to sustained player pressure for classic BR options to run alongside Black Ops Royale, the newer ground-loot mode that arrived with Season 02 Reloaded. Black Ops Royale strips out the meta loadout grind entirely — players drop in, pick up weapons from the ground, and fight. That framing brought back a wave of lapsed players who had drifted to other games entirely after burning out on the traditional Warzone cycle of leveling guns and chasing meta builds.

But the timing of the Quads return is complicated. While bots are being tested in Black Ops Royale lobbies as part of a regional matchmaking test in Europe and the Middle East, the standard Casual playlist for Warzone is unavailable. The developers addressed the decision directly: "Over the past year, we've learned a lot from introducing bots through Casual experiences across Battle Royale and Resurgence. Those modes helped us better understand how to deliver the best gameplay experience in Call of Duty: Warzone across the player population. With the launch of Black Ops Royale in Season 02 Reloaded, we're continuing to build on those learnings with a regional matchmaking test in the new mode." They added they would "gauge success based on player data and player feedback" as the tests run.

The bot test structure itself has generated significant backlash. Testing bots inside regular Black Ops Royale matches rather than isolating them in a separate playlist is what's drawn the sharpest criticism from the community. The previous Casual mode for standard Warzone worked by stacking the majority of a lobby with AI-controlled bots while keeping actual player counts low — a design that worked partly because it was opt-in and clearly labeled. Running bots in a standard-rotation mode without that separation is a different proposition, and players have noticed.

On the playlist side, the Season 01 launch structure established that all squad sizes, including Solos, Duos, Trios, and Quads, were available across both core Battle Royale and Resurgence in Europe and North America, while other regions launched with Quads only for both modes. Buy station pricing for the season is also set, with UAV at $6,000, Precision Airstrike and Napalm Strike each at $5,000, and Loadout Drop Markers scaling from $6,000 in Solos to $10,000 in Duos, Trios, and Quads. Redeploy costs $4,000, with an Armor Plate available for $300.

The season also introduced the M15 MOD 0, a full-auto assault rifle unlocked immediately with no criteria required, described officially as "well-rounded in its power, accuracy, and handling." One content creator covering the update noted that a creator call had reportedly communicated a plan to require players to complete a match of Blackout and then one game of Black Ops Royale before other modes unlocked, but that plan was pulled before the update went live. The developer team is also reportedly working on a Black Ops Royale Solos variant, which was not part of the initial mode rollout.
