Rebuilt Trilogy VI Returns to Lahaina Harbor After 2023 Wildfire Loss
Trilogy VI sailed 6,000 miles from St. Croix to reclaim its berth in Lahaina Harbor, replacing the catamaran the Coon family lost to the 2023 wildfires.

After a 6,000-mile transoceanic passage from St. Croix in the Caribbean, the newly built Trilogy VI arrived in Lahaina Harbor to hugs, cheers, and lei from the West Maui community, capping a recovery effort that began the moment the Coon family's original vessel burned in the August 2023 Lahaina wildfires. Trilogy Excursions announced the replacement catamaran will begin commercial operations from Lahaina Harbor on March 18, 2026, the first time the company has sailed from that harbor since the fires.
The original Trilogy VI was among the vessels lost when the wildfires tore through Lahaina Harbor in August 2023. The Coon family, which founded Trilogy Excursions in Lahaina more than 50 years ago, chose to give the replacement the same name. "Carrying forward the name was a deliberate choice, honoring the legacy of the past while looking confidently toward the future," Maui Now reported. The company has long been, as Maui Now described it, "woven into the fabric of community life and ocean culture on Maui."
The new vessel's delivery was anything but routine. According to Trilogy's company blog, "the new Trilogy VI completed a remarkable 6,000-mile transoceanic journey from St. Croix in the Caribbean to Hawaiʻi before joining the fleet." The crew was met dockside with an outpouring that reflected both personal bonds and broader community feeling: "welcomed back into Lahaina Harbor with hugs, cheers, and lei, in an inspirational moment of resilience and renewal for the family-run company," as Hawaii News Now described the scene.
Before the first ticketed sail, Trilogy marked the return with ceremony. Uncle Sol Kahoʻohalahala performed a blessing, and the company held a quiet inaugural sail reserved for the Trilogy ʻohana, the people closest to the operation, prior to opening the vessel to guests. With Trilogy VI now at her berth, the company's blog notes that "Trilogy once again operates seven vessels across Maui Nui."
"As Trilogy VI rejoins the fleet on the water, her sails carry forward a legacy rooted in Lahaina — a legacy of resilience, connection, and hope for what's next in Maui's story."
For Lahaina Harbor, where recovery from the 2023 fires is still unfolding, the sight of Trilogy VI's sails represents the kind of milestone that structures alone cannot mark. Commercial sailings begin March 18.
