Beatrice Ryan Designs Releases Week 5 of Mystery Winter Afghan CAL, Covering Section Joins
Elena Hunt's 12th annual Mystery Winter Afghan CAL hit Week 5 on March 10, shifting focus to joining sections in this 10-week Tuesday series.

Designer Elena Hunt, who publishes under Beatrice Ryan Designs, released Week 5 of the 2026 Mystery Winter Afghan CAL on March 10, bringing participants to one of the most pivotal stages of any multi-section project: joining the pieces together. The installment covers section joins and technique notes, a natural turning point in a build that has been unfolding one Tuesday at a time since February 10.
This marks the halfway point of the 10-week mystery CAL, now in its 12th annual run. The format keeps participants working without a full picture of the finished afghan until the weekly drops fill it in, with each Tuesday post adding another layer. Week 1 opened with materials and information on February 10, Week 2 received a pattern and stitch count correction on February 20, and the series has continued on schedule through Week 5.
The CAL's Ravelry page, listed under Beatrice Ryan Designs: The Love of Crochet, shows 27,268 projects logged and the pattern stashed 14,887 times, figures that reflect a well-established annual following rather than a new release finding its footing. The blog itself has accumulated 7,956,645 hits, with the Week 1 post currently among the site's top-visited pages alongside perennial favorites like the Amazing Grace Prayer Shawl and Irish Pub Shawl patterns.
Weekly prizes are built into the CAL structure. A $10 Amazon Gift Card is awarded randomly to one member of the Beatrice Ryan Designs CAL Group on Facebook at intervals throughout the run, with each giveaway post explaining entry rules and a limited entry window: "The entry time will only last part of the day… so stay tuned in the group!" A Grand Prize is also on offer, with details shared through the CAL's Week 1 post.

Hunt noted the affiliate link disclosure on the blog: "This post includes affiliate links that I may get compensation from if you decide to make a purchase. Thank you for the support!" The CAL community spans Facebook, Instagram, the dedicated CAL Facebook Group, and Pinterest, with Hunt posting the annual kickoff on Instagram: "It's time for the 12th Annual 2026 Mystery Winter Afghan Crochet Along on Beatrice Ryandesigns.com! I hope you will join me, link and bio!!"
Five weeks remain after this joining installment, with new instructions continuing each Tuesday through the CAL's conclusion.
