Horry County Museum Hosts Free Beginner Crochet Workshop in March
The Horry County Museum in Conway offered a free granny square workshop on March 12, teaching complete beginners basic stitches and pattern reading.

The Horry County Museum in Conway, South Carolina brought crochet to the community with a free "Crochet for Beginners" workshop held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026. The event drew beginners to 805 Main Street for an afternoon session covering foundational skills that many crocheters wish they had received in a structured setting early on.
Participants worked through a few basic stitches and tackled the basics of reading patterns, two skills that form the backbone of any successful crochet practice. The practical centerpiece of the workshop was starting a granny square, the iconic motif that generations of crocheters have used as their first real project, with each attendee taking their in-progress square home.
Space was limited and pre-registration was required for the event, which was coordinated through Abigail Geedy at the museum. Registration was available by calling (843) 915-7864 or emailing geedy.abigail@horrycountysc.gov.

The workshop was listed across several regional calendars ahead of the date, including MyrtleBeach.com, South Carolina Living, and the South Carolina Arts Commission's Hub and Arts Daily, reflecting the kind of cross-community interest a free, no-barrier-to-entry crafting event tends to generate in the Conway area. The SC Arts Commission's listing featured an image of crocheted purple flowers connected by crocheted green vines and leaves, a fitting visual nod to where a granny square foundation can eventually lead.
The Horry County Museum, situated at 805 Main Street in Conway, continues to offer programming beyond its historical collections, with hands-on craft workshops like this one serving as a direct point of entry for residents curious about fiber arts.
