Wyldwolf Games Launches Kickstarter for Dark Fantasy D&D Setting Axis Saga
Wyldwolf Games' Axis Saga drops players into a Renaissance-inspired world where a metaphysical force called the Silence preys on every negative thought.

Minneapolis game studio Wyldwolf Games has announced Axis Saga: The War of Silence, a dark fantasy horror setting for D&D 5e, with a Kickstarter campaign set to launch April 14, 2026. The sourcebook is compatible with both the 2014 and 2024 rulesets, and it replaces the familiar heroic arc of most D&D settings with something considerably grimmer: a 16th-century-inspired world called Medi, beset by spreading portals into terror realms, a demon-led Cult of Silence, and a metaphysical threat called The Great Silence that, in the words of its creators, carries "insidious patterns clinging to every negative thought" and from which no one is immune.
"We wanted Axis Saga: The War of Silence to feel like a world shaped by hard choices, real consequences, and moral gray areas rather than a traditional good-versus-evil fantasy setting," said Chase McAllister, Wyldwolf's founder. "That philosophy came out of years of community-driven play, where player choices and table stories helped shape the setting itself."
That community foundation is central to the project's identity. Wyldwolf began as a Minneapolis game store offering professional Game Master-led tabletop experiences, private game rooms, and beginner-friendly programming. The Axis Saga setting was not designed in isolation: it was shaped by years of actual tabletop campaigns run at Wyldwolf, molded by player decisions and table-level storytelling, and is positioned as a living world where future canon continues to be influenced by community play.
The physical rulebook ships with a new playable class, 12 subclasses, a regional bestiary, NPCs, and GM-specific lore that constitutes a complete toolkit for running the setting. Two ready-to-play One-Shot adventures provide immediate entry points for groups who want to test the world before committing to a full campaign. The book also introduces three original mechanical systems: Raids, Resonance, and The Gift, the last of which is described as a new take on vampires.

Beyond the rulebook, Wyldwolf has lined up partnerships with Roll20, Dwarven Forge, and Eldritch Foundry to support both digital and physical play. VTT integration is planned for Roll20, while the broader package will include miniatures, STLs for 3D printing, detailed maps, and custom campaign audio. The scope of those assets across specific pledge tiers will become clear when the Kickstarter goes live on April 14.
For players who have grown tired of the Forgotten Realms but still want to stay within the 5e ruleset, Axis Saga is positioning itself alongside third-party settings like Grim Hollow and Crooked Moon while pushing further into moral ambiguity than most. The distinction, per McAllister's design philosophy, is a world already in motion, one where the consequences of choices outlast the session and ripple into the setting's evolving canon.
