Take-Two has told investors it expects Grand Theft Auto Online to remain active and supported after Grand Theft Auto 6 arrives, provided players keep showing up. CEO Strauss Zelnick pointed to a committed community and a recent spike in content-driven revenue as evidence that GTA Online still has legs.

"At the same time, I have every reason to believe we’ll continue to support GTA Online. There’s a great community that loves it, that stays engaged. And again, in this quarter, Rockstar has shown that when you deliver great additional content, despite how long GTA Online has been in the market, people show up," Zelnick said during the company earnings call and investor Q&A. He noted Take-Two’s historical approach to online products, citing a precedent in China where two generations of NBA 2K Online ran side by side rather than sunsetting the earlier title: "We launched NBA 2K Online in China, I think originally in 2012, if I’m not mistaken. And then we launched NBA 2K Online 2 in China in 2017. If I’m not mistaken. We did not sunset Online 1. They both are still in the market, and they serve consumers, and they're alive, and we have this massive audience."

Take-Two highlighted a 27 percent growth in GTA Online revenue during the quarterly discussion, linking that increase to recent content such as the Mansions update, which added new properties, missions, and even pets. Those numbers come alongside persistent engagement: GTA V has sold 225 million copies worldwide and the game can top more than 100,000 players on Steam on busy days. GTA Online itself launched in October 2013 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and has received hundreds of updates and ports since, keeping it relevant more than a decade on.

The company also reaffirmed GTA 6’s launch window and said marketing will ramp up this summer, with Take-Two expecting a November 2026 release. At the same time, Zelnick underscored that Rockstar drives creative direction and Take-Two maintains a relatively light touch on label-level creative choices: "Look, Rockstar Games is the locus of information about, you know, where the titles go content and marketing, and generally, we have a pretty light touch when we talk about the label’s creative activities."

For players, creators, and role-play communities, the practical takeaway is simple: continued content and support are likely if the playerbase remains active. That means continued opportunities for in-game economies, new modes, and community-driven events. It also leaves open questions about how Rockstar will allocate teams and resources once GTA 6’s multiplayer takes off; Take-Two’s stance is conditional rather than a blanket lifetime promise.

Watch Rockstar’s content roadmap and upcoming earnings disclosures for specifics on cadence and staffing. For now, GTA Online veterans can take some comfort in Zelnick’s message: if the community stays engaged, Rockstar and Take-Two appear willing to keep the lights on.
