Hornell's Railhead Brewing Company closing Feb. 27 after sale

Railhead Brewing Company, the wood-fired pizza joint and in-house brewery at 40 Park Drive in Hornell, will close at the current location after the sale of the business, with owners setting Friday, Feb. 27 as the last day open to the public. Owners Dave Woolever and Michael McCumiskey announced the change on social media, writing, "The time for Railhead as it currently exists has come to an end."

The Park Drive venue has been a Hornell dining and nightlife fixture known for in-house brewed craft beers and wood-fired pizzas. In their announcement the owners added, "There are so many shared memories with this community, and we will address as much as we can in the coming weeks. For now simply thank you for supporting Railhead over the past 11 years." Coverage of the closure also described the business' run as nearly a dozen years.

Ahead of the Feb. 27 closing, Railhead will hold a brewery equipment sale on Feb. 20 and Feb. 21, with sale hours listed as 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. both days. The equipment sale dates fall in the week before the final public day and are being promoted by the brewery as part of the wind-down of operations.

Railhead's public statement included a toast to what comes next: "Cheers to new beginnings for this great place and its new ownership." The announcement confirms a change in ownership but does not identify the buyer or describe plans for the Park Drive property after Feb. 27.

Attempts to reach the owners for additional detail were not successful at the time of the announcement; Woolever and McCumiskey did not immediately return messages seeking comment. The business' official social listing and website continued to show hours and ordering information; the site reads, "Railhead brewing co. is open stop in or click the link below to order out." The listed hours on the site are Thursday 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturday noon to 10:00 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5:o0pm, with location shown as 40 Park Drive, Hornell, NY 14843.
