Modelo launches first non-alcoholic chelada flavor for moderation-minded drinkers
Modelo introduced Modelo Chelada Limón y Sal Non-Alcoholic nationwide in key markets, giving drinkers a flavorful low-calorie chelada option that taps moderation and flavor trends.

Modelo, the No. 1 beer brand in the U.S. by sales, rolled out its first non-alcoholic product on Jan. 7, 2026: Modelo Chelada Limón y Sal Non-Alcoholic. The ready-to-drink offering brings the salty-lime chelada profile to a no-alcohol format, aimed squarely at consumers seeking moderation without sacrificing flavor.
The product mirrors the original Chelada’s lime-and-salt profile and is positioned at 60 calories per 12 oz can. It is launching in leading Modelo markets, including Illinois, New York, Texas, Florida, and California, and will be sold in 12 oz 6-packs that are line-priced with Corona Non-Alcoholic. The move expands Constellation Brands’ moderation-focused portfolio, which already includes Corona Non-Alcoholic, and the company cited category data and forecasts pointing to growth in low- and no-alcohol cheladas.
Logan Jensen, Vice President of Brand Marketing at Modelo, framed the release as an answer to consumer demand: “People want choices without having to compromise, and Modelo Chelada Non‑Alcoholic does exactly that,” Jensen said. “Limón y Sal has been the fan favorite in our ready-to-drink Chelada lineup for six years running, so it was the obvious pick for our first non‑alcoholic release. It brings moderation and flavor together, with the authentic sabor that defines the Modelo Chelada product line.”
For drinkers, the most immediate value is a fuller-flavored NA alternative that retains chelada DNA, lime, salt, and the taste profile associated with Modelo’s Mexican lager, while cutting alcohol and calories. That makes it useful for designated drivers, sober-curious consumers, those pacing a night out, and anyone who prefers a bright, savory beverage without the buzz. Retailers in rollout markets can expect a straightforward merchandising play: slot the product alongside other NA options or alongside Chelada and michelada offerings to capture cross-shoppers.

Homebrewers and craft-beer communities will find practical inspiration in the launch. The product highlights demand for savory, spice-forward low-ABV and NA formats; replicate the chelada experience by focusing on aroma and mouthfeel, lime zest, saline additions, and adjuncts like tomato or hot sauce for michelada riffs can make lower-alcohol beers feel complete. Use the canned Chelada as a convenient mixer or benchmark when dialing in home recipes for sessionable, non-boozy versions.
Our two cents? Try a can chilled with a salted rim before tweaking your next low-ABV brew. It’s a reminder that moderation and bold flavor aren’t mutually exclusive, so experiment with salt, acid, and carbonation to achieve that same punch without the proof.
