Old Caz Beer sets August 8 opening for Petaluma taproom

Old Caz Beer will open Old Caz Backyard in downtown Petaluma on Aug. 8, taking over the former Block beer garden and food truck park at 20 Grey St, Petaluma, CA 94952. The move gives the Rohnert Park-based brewery a foothold in one of Sonoma County’s busiest downtown dining corridors, where foot traffic and repeat visits matter as much as the beer list.

The new space is more than a simple second taproom. Old Caz is stepping into a well-known hospitality site rather than building from scratch, which gives the brewery immediate visibility and a ready-made relationship with downtown Petaluma’s bar-and-restaurant scene. That kind of placement can shape how quickly a brewery becomes part of a city’s regular rotation, especially when the goal is to draw both locals and weekend visitors.

Old Caz Backyard is being built out with more than 30 taps, a full kitchen, live music, and a family-friendly outdoor gathering space. KZST and KSRO also reported that the concept will pour local wine and cider alongside beer, widening the appeal beyond the core draft crowd. For craft beer fans, that means the taproom will function less like a standard satellite bar and more like a hybrid destination where drinkers can spend an afternoon, catch a set, and order food without leaving the property.

The opening also marks a clear expansion beyond Old Caz’s base in Rohnert Park. In Sonoma County, brewery growth is often measured by how well a brand can build visibility outside its home city, and Petaluma gives Old Caz a highly trafficked stage for that push. A downtown room with a full kitchen and event-ready outdoor space can support special releases, collaborations, and community gatherings in a way that a smaller pour-only outpost cannot.

Old Caz first disclosed the Petaluma move in May, when it said it was expanding to the former Block location. Setting the opening for Aug. 8 turns that plan into a concrete next step, and the decision to plant Old Caz Backyard in downtown Petaluma signals confidence in both the site and the neighborhood around it. In a crowded North Bay beer market, location is part of the brand, and Old Caz just picked a visible one.
