The Heat Lab Celebrates Ribbon Cutting, Brings Ice Baths to Southern Maryland

Residents of Calvert County now have a local contrast-therapy option as The Heat Lab marked its official ribbon cutting on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, welcoming community members, local leaders and business representatives to its wellness studio at Armory Square Shops. Marketed as Southern Maryland’s first dedicated contrast-therapy studio, the facility offers private infrared sauna suites, cold plunge rooms, red light therapy and the studio allows walk-in IV therapy in addition to scheduled services.

The Heat Lab opened to the public on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, but the months that followed were used to fine-tune operations, educate clients on available services, and ensure the space was fully prepared to meet community needs. During the ribbon-cutting event staff led guided tours of the space, answered questions and explained how private infrared sauna and cold plunge rooms are used as part of contrast therapy. Studio staff emphasized education and approachability as core parts of the business model.

"A lot of what we offer here may be new to people, so education is a big part of what we do," a staff member said during the event, noting that demonstrations and explanations aim to demystify heat-to-cold cycling for first-timers. "We want visitors to understand how these therapies support the body naturally and help them take a more active role in their health." Staff further framed access and comfort as priorities: "The goal is to make these services approachable, whether someone is coming in with experience or just walking in to learn what’s available."

Members of the Calvert County Chamber of Commerce were also in attendance for the ribbon cutting and noted the studio’s role in expanding local health and wellness options while contributing to the continued growth of Prince Frederick’s business community. Attendees expressed enthusiasm about having Southern Maryland’s first studio available locally, pointing to the convenience of accessing specialized wellness services without traveling outside Calvert County.
