Wizards crowns cats the Secret Lair winners with June Superdrop
Cats beat dogs again, but the real news for Commander players is a June 15 Secret Lair Superdrop with a staggered reveal, tight sale window, and collector-heavy buzz.

Wizards of the Coast is giving cats the victory lap they earned in Secret Lair lore, and the practical question for Commander players is simple: is this one worth setting a reminder for? The answer is still partly behind the curtain, but the drop already has the hallmarks of a high-interest Secret Lair release, with a few cards previewed at MagicCon: Las Vegas and the rest set to be revealed later.
Secret Lair: Cats Are the Best Superdrop was announced on May 4, 2026, and Wizards tied it directly to last year’s cats-versus-dogs showdown, saying cats won fair and square. The June 15, 2026 release will be sold only through MagicSecretLair.com, which puts the usual Secret Lair urgency back at the center of the story. This is not a full cardlist moment yet; it is a launch-and-build rollout designed to keep attention on the drop as more cards are shown.

That matters for Commander buyers because Secret Lair products live or die on a different axis than play boosters or precons. The audience here is split between deckbuilders looking for singleton-format staples, collectors chasing special treatments, and traders who know a well-timed extra copy can become a piece of deck tech later. Wizards has not yet shown the full lineup, so the safest read is that the appeal right now is presentation, novelty, and the possibility of desirable reprints rather than confirmed deck content.
The company also leaned into the event side of the hobby. At MagicCon: Las Vegas, Wizards showed off a handful of cards and pointed attendees toward real cats available for adoption, a crossover move that fits Secret Lair’s meme-driven branding as much as its collectible appeal. The Cat Distribution System joke is part of the pitch, but so is the sense that this is meant to feel like a moment, not just a product page.

For anyone planning to buy, the logistics are unusually important. The pre-queue opens at 8 a.m. PT and the sale begins at 9 a.m. PT. Products are only secured once checkout is completed, not when they are added to cart, and orders over $99 qualify for free shipping under the usual terms and conditions. Wizards is also telling buyers to create a Wizards Account and verify shipping details ahead of time, which is exactly the sort of housekeeping that separates a smooth Secret Lair pickup from a missed cart.
