8BitDo Retro 87 Mecha BREAK Panther edition hits record-low $59.39
Tom’s Hardware reported the 8BitDo Retro 87 Mecha BREAK: Panther TKL on sale at a record-low $59.39, though 8bitmods’ listing captured the board at $107.47, creating a clear price discrepancy.

Tom’s Hardware flagged a steep discount for 8BitDo’s Mecha BREAK: Panther edition of the Retro 87, reporting the keyboard “on sale at its record low price of just $59.39, down a respectable 10% from its list price.” That deal figure positions the themed 87-key tenkeyless as an unusually cheap entry for a factory-collab board, but captured retailer listings tell a different story on price.
A snapshot of 8bitmods’ product page lists the Retro Mechanical Keyboard Mecha Break Edition at “Now: $107.47” and shows SKU RET00622 with UPC 6922621507635. The 8bitmods capture also notes “No reviews yet” and reproduces 8BitDo’s product copy and spec highlights including “Fast-mapping on Super Buttons (no software needed). Support 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2.” Those two explicit price points, $59.39 and $107.47, are present in captured sources and are not reconciled in the materials available.
The Mecha BREAK: Panther edition ships as a full-spec TKL from 8BitDo’s official product sheet. 8BitDo lists 87 keys, a hot-swappable PCB, Kailh Glaze Jellyfish Pro linear switches, N-key rollover, an aluminum plate, and a top-mount MDA-like height. Connectivity is tri-mode: Bluetooth LE 5.0, 2.4G wireless via included adapter, or wired USB-C for charge-and-play. Manufacturer specs show a 4000 mAh Li-ion battery with 300 use hours via Bluetooth, 280 use hours via 2.4G, and 4-8 hours charging time. Physical dimensions on the spec sheet are 376.6 x 169.6 x 46.8 mm and weight 1470 g.
Keycap and accessory details are explicit across sources. 8BitDo’s package contents list the keyboard, 8BitDo Dual Super Buttons, a 2.4G adapter, USB cable, a set of extra dye-sublimation PBT keycaps x21, an instruction manual, three fun stickers, and a keycap puller. Tom’s Hardware describes the kit as including “dual giant super buttons that connect via cable to the rear of the keyboard” and notes that mapping and macros can be handled with 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2. Product text and Shelter Shop capture also describe double-layered ABS keycaps with a matte UV coating that let RGB lighting shine through.

The Mecha BREAK tie-in is explicitly billed as an official collaboration with the Mecha BREAK game. 8BitDo’s marketing copy declares the Panther flavor “Silent, sharp, and unstoppable, Panther moves with purpose, never wasting a step… Command your Mecha. Dominate the fight.” 8BitDo’s Instagram post from July 8, 2025 also used similar language: “Command your Mecha. Dominate the fight. We're excited to unveil our official collaboration,” with 649 likes and 18 comments on the captured post.
Taken together, the Mecha BREAK: Panther packs high-end lifestyle and functional features, hot-swap, Kailh Glaze Jellyfish Pro switches, dual programmable Super Buttons, and a 4,000 mAh battery, into an 87-key TKL package. Whether buyers will see the Tom’s Hardware-reported $59.39 snapshot or the 8bitmods $107.47 listing in cart totals will depend on retailer pricing at the time of purchase; the board’s manufacturer specs and included extras remain consistent across the captured sources, making it a distinct, fully specified release to watch as availability and pricing evolve.
