Mode Designs Encore 2026 debuts Crown Mounting System, reshapes typing feel
Mode’s Encore 2026 is betting that a new Crown Mounting System can change feel, sound and plate identity, not just sell another 65% case.

Mode Designs is pushing the Encore 2026 as more than a fresh pre-order. The April 16 launch centers on a new Crown Mounting System that changes how the plate and PCB assembly meet the chassis, turning the board into a deeper statement about typing feel, sound and build identity than a standard cosmetic refresh.
The system uses a wave spring, silicone spool, bushing and custom shoulder bolt at each of eight mounting points, a setup aimed at the tuned flex and acoustic behavior that has helped Mode stand out in the high-end custom space. That matters because the Encore has always lived in a segment where gasket mount and top mount are the default comparison points; Mode is now trying to move the conversation from familiar mounting labels to a more specific, engineered feel profile. The company also sells a Crown Mounting System - Top variant that it says works more like a typical top-mount while improving vibration isolation and reducing strain on the plate.
Mode is not abandoning practicality in the process. The Encore 2026 is priced from $299+, supports QMK + VIA firmware, and remains a 65% keyboard with compatibility for macOS, Windows and Linux. That combination keeps it squarely in the lane Mode buyers already know, while the mounting overhaul gives the board a new internal story to match its external one.
That external design language still leans hard into Mode’s industrial, premium look. The Encore 2026 page highlights thick bezels, a chamfered cherry-style front edge and natural hardwood accents, along with five wood-and-metal colorways. Mode presents the board as part of a broader ecosystem rather than a single case swap, and the brand’s own 2026 launch materials tie Encore to the Sonnet refresh and new Monterey and Cacao keycaps.

Those keycaps matter because they show the same long-game approach. Monterey and Cacao are each listed at $59.99, with shipping estimated for May 2026, and Mode says both sets came out of a multi-year project using a custom PBT/ABS blend and double-shot legends. The result is a lineup built around matching materials, acoustics and aesthetics instead of chasing one-off novelty.
Mode’s earlier Encore releases already set the stage for that evolution, with Series 1, Series 2 and Series 3 versions, including the Series 3 Industrial Series limited to 450 units. Encore 2026 now takes that lineage and tries to make the mount itself part of the appeal, which is exactly the kind of move that can turn a premium keyboard into a community talking point.
