Dapol Confirms Decorated Samples for N Gauge LNER B17 Project
Dapol confirmed receipt of decorated samples for its forthcoming N gauge LNER B17 4 6 0 project, showing several historically appropriate liveries across LNER and British Rail eras. The models will include a suite of features aimed at smooth running and easy DCC installation, and shipment to the UK is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.

Dapol has moved the LNER B17 4 6 0 project forward by receiving decorated master samples that demonstrate the range of liveries and detailing planned for the production run. The initial sample set covers LNER Apple Green, North Eastern unlined black, British Railways Apple Green, BR late crest, and an Easterling set that pairs a BR early crest B17 with Gresley Carmine and Cream coaches. The selection will appeal to modellers focused on both LNER era operations and early British Railways practice.
The models are described as featuring finely moulded bodywork with separate detail parts and cast driving wheels. Dapol is using its tender drive system with all wheel electrical pickup to ensure reliable power collection, and the motor choice is a Super Creep motor designed for smooth low speed running. Each locomotive will include a 6 pin decoder socket for straightforward DCC installation, and there will be a factory fitted DCC option for those who want a ready to run digital install. Etched nameplates and an accessory pack are included to add period correct finishing touches.
Shipment to the UK is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026, and Dapol has provided recommended retail price guidance for both DCC ready and DCC fitted versions. The feature set targets both layout operators who value slow speed control and collectors who want accurate livery and detailing. The Easterling pairing is a practical inclusion for operators building 1930s and 1950s service formations, while the range of black and green liveries supports both freight and passenger era recreations.
Practical considerations for modellers include planning decoder installation for the 6 pin socket, allowing for the tender drive arrangement when arranging wiring and coupling heights, and checking loco turning and curve clearances for the tender drive setup. With shipment slated for mid 2026, now is a good time to review layout power pickup and storage space so the B17s can be integrated smoothly when they arrive.
