Sun Parlour Lines HO plan released, full around the walls project
The complete Sun Parlour Lines HO layout plan was released on December 18, 2025, offering a detailed, build ready specification for a 12 by 41 foot around the walls layout set in southern Ontario in September 1955. The package includes a downloadable PDF track plan, layout statistics, and practical guidance on benchwork, track, scenery, and Digitrax DCC control, making it a strong starting point for anyone planning a large HO mainline project.

The Sun Parlour Lines plan brings a fully specified, room size friendly HO project to the community, focused on prototypical operation and realistic mid century character. Set in southern Ontario in September 1955 with prototype influences drawn from Chesapeake and Ohio and New York Central practice, the layout fits a 12 by 41 foot room and supports an around the walls arrangement that yields about 150 feet of mainline run. That length allows for long prototype style consists and continuous operation without frequent reversing.
Practical construction details are a highlight. Benchwork is specified using L girder framing with open grid tops for strength and access. Roadbed is cork over Homasote resting on 5/8 inch plywood, a stack that balances noise control with reliable fastening for track. Track work calls for code 83 and code 70 flextrack for the visible trackage, with selective handlaid track using code 83, code 70 and code 40 on tie strips in yards and industrial spots where extra realism pays off. Minimum clearances are realistic, with a mainline minimum radius of 28 inches and a tighter 22 inch radius for a hidden reverse loop.
Scenery and operational systems are addressed in construction notes. Scenery is built from carved extruded foam insulation board to create efficient, lightweight contouring that reduces time and dust compared with traditional plaster only methods. Digital command control is handled with Digitrax DCC, enabling multiple train operation and modern control features for staged and staged to staged operation.

The downloadable PDF track plan and layout statistics included here give measurable take offs for materials lists, staging space needs, and a parts first shopping list. Plan for room walk clearances, staging and access panels when building around the walls. Measure your installation space carefully, follow the benchwork and roadbed stack for quieter operation, and use handlaid track selectively to add prototypical detail without adding unnecessary labor across the entire railroad. This plan provides both the vision and the technical foundation to take a large HO mainline from idea to operating reality.
