Nearly two years after the instax WIDE 400 debuted in a single sage green finish, Fujifilm added a second option to the lineup: a matte "JET BLACK" colorway, announced from Tokyo on March 17, 2026, with availability beginning March 31.

The finish is more than a coat of paint. Fujifilm described the new look as conveying "a calm and refined impression," and positioned it against the green's "more active impression" in the company's own press language. "This sophisticated matte black color suits a wide range of situations, from casual scenes such as outdoor activities to urban snapshot photography and formal occasions including weddings and parties," Fujifilm stated. For photographers who found the original sage green a little conspicuous, the matte black offers a way to work more quietly in a crowd.

Nothing under the shell changed. The Jet Black version retains the same retractable 95mm f/14 lens, which delivers roughly a 35mm equivalent field of view, and fires on double-card-sized instax WIDE film producing prints measuring 3.4 x 4.25 inches. Power comes on with a single left-turn of the lens barrel, and the built-in self-timer, which Fujifilm noted has been "well received by users around the world," handles group shots without needing a second person. The WIDE 400 also holds a Red Dot Design Award and an iF Design Award for its industrial design.

Fujifilm is shipping a matching matte black camera case alongside the camera body. Pricing, as reported by Petapixel, puts the camera at $174.95, identical to what the green model sells for, with the case adding $22.50. Both are available to preorder now, with shipping beginning March 31.

The announcement followed closely behind Fujifilm's unveiling of the Instax Mini 13, continuing a steady drumbeat of instax releases. The WIDE 400 originally launched in July 2024, according to Fujifilm's own press materials, making the black colorway an addition that some reviewers had been asking for since the single-color launch. Digital Camera World had called out the one-color limitation in its original review of the camera, noting that a pricier wide-format model probably deserved more variety than Fujifilm's more affordable Mini 13, which shipped in five colors from day one.

With two colors now confirmed, Fujifilm framed the choice simply: green for an active impression, black for something calmer. The WIDE 400's wide-format prints remain the draw either way.
