Protect Your Camera Gear With the New Photography Care Program

Standard warranties won't cover dust or bad weather damage to your gear — The Phoblographer's new Photography Care Program wants to close that gap.

Your manufacturer's warranty probably won't save you when a sandstorm gets into your lens contacts or a surprise downpour soaks your body. That gap between what warranties promise and what actually happens in the field is exactly what the Photography Care Program, launched by The Phoblographer in partnership with Full Frame Insurance, is designed to fill.

Chris Gampat, writing for The Phoblographer and updating the announcement on March 11, 2026, laid out the core argument plainly: "the warranty of your camera or lens doesn't necessarily cover what happens to it in case of dust, inclement weather, etc." It's the kind of coverage reality that working photographers learn the hard way, usually after the damage is already done.

The Phoblographer has spent years running practical durability tests on cameras and lenses, and that field experience shaped the program's pitch. "For years, we've understood the challenges you, as a photographer, face when it comes to protecting your equipment, which is often your livelihood," Gampat wrote. "Despite the countless hours of preparation and dedication, accidents can still happen, and warranties don't always provide the coverage needed to bounce back from unexpected mishaps. That's why we've joined forces with Full Frame Insurance to offer photographers across the United States a comprehensive solution for safeguarding their gear and business."

The dust warning in particular is worth taking seriously. "Dust affects your camera and lens performance more than you think," the announcement notes, "and unless you're constantly cleaning the lens contacts, your autofocus performance could end up pretty wonky." For anyone shooting fast-moving subjects where autofocus hesitation costs you the frame, that's not a hypothetical problem.

The Photography Care Program is described as a tailored solution for photographers of all levels, with the marketing copy making a direct play for working pros: "Hey pros! Listen up! Our photography insurance program is designed to be there when photographers really need it! We're giving you more than the competition can in different ways!"

What the announcement does not spell out is pricing, specific coverage terms, deductibles, or the claims process. No premium ranges, policy limits, or state-by-state eligibility details were provided in the launch materials, and Full Frame Insurance has not offered a separate public statement on their underwriting role. Those specifics are worth confirming directly before signing up.

One disclosure worth noting: The Phoblographer states it "may receive affiliate compensation for products purchased using links in this article," a standard but relevant caveat when a publication launches its own branded insurance offering.

For photographers weighing whether their current gear protection is actually enough, the Photography Care Program at least raises a question worth sitting with: when was the last time you read the exclusions section of your camera's warranty?
